.45 ACP

From the Call of Duty Wiki

The .45 ACP (11.43x23mm Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as the .45 Auto by C.I.P., is a rimless pistol cartridge designed by John Browning in 1904, for use in his prototype Colt semi-automatic .45 pistol and eventually the M1911 pistol adopted by the U.S. Army in 1911.

The .45 ACP is widely renowned for its stopping power, and is what gave the Thompson and M1911 their famous knock-down punch. The cartridge fires a large, heavy slug that is devastating upon impact yet compact in overall size. However, the power of the cartridge also made for considerable recoil when fired. The TDI Vector, set to appear in Modern Warfare 2, claims to reduce this recoil to manageable levels.

The 45 was a direct response to the low stopping power of the .380 acp as shown fighting Moro rebels. This led to the adoption of the 1911 pistol.

It is currently used by 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Delta Force), USMC, Green Berets, and MEU.

Up until the early 1990s it was used by the US Military in their standard side arm, the Colt M1911. They changed their side arm to the M9.
