7.62x39mm

From the Call of Duty Wiki

7.62x39mm round beside a 7.62x25mm Tokarev round
The 7.62x39mm cartridge is a Soviet/Russian rifle/machine gun cartridge first introduced in 1945 in the SKS carbine. However, it rose to prominence within the soviet military in 1947 when it was used by the AK-47 assault rifle. The cartridge was a shortened version of the standard Russian rifle round used in the Mosin-Nagant rifle, the 7.62x54R cartridge. Developed similarly to other intermediate rounds such as the German 7.92x33mm round and the .30 carbine, in that it was shortened for use in lighter or fully-automatic weapons. As a result, however, the round has a lower effective range than other rifle rounds. In the 70's, the round was replaced by the intermediate 5.45x39mm round used in the AK-74. The cartridge continues to see heavy use in third-world conflicts.
