CampaignEdit

The ASP is the first weapon the player uses in the game. It appears as a secondary weapon in the mission Operation 40, along with the M16. The ASP is the weapon used to shoot Castro's Double; if the player has swapped the ASP for another weapon, Mason will receive another one to shoot him. This is the only mission in which the ASP is available.

MultiplayerEdit

The ASP has high damage (40) at close range and low damage (20) beyond medium range. It has low recoil and a small amount of idle sway. Its firecap is 937.5 RPM, compared to the other handguns' 625 RPM, making it the fastest firing Handgun in Black Ops, tied with the Dual Wielded M1911s. It has a low magazine capacity of seven rounds and a very quick reload: with Sleight of Hand, the reload is nearly instantaneous. Like all pistols, it cannot be used with the Dual Wield attachment when in Second Chance.

Trivia Edit

  • The ASP's iron sights do not use traditional sights like other weapons, but use a V shaped sight instead of having a front and rear sight used on many other weapons.
  • It has unique reload animation compared to the other pistols. The character grabs a fresh magazine, removes the old one with the same hand, and then slides the new one back in one, smooth motion.
  • It has the fastest mid-magazine reload.
  • The ASP was going to be available in Zombies mode, but was removed. It still remains in the game files as "asp_zm" and "asp_upgraded_zm".
  • It is the only handgun held with only one hand in Call of Duty: Black Ops without the Dual Wield attachment (Except on the Wii).
  • In-game, the translucent plastic magazine always appears full, no matter how many rounds are actually in the magazine.
  • In first person the ASP is held with one hand, however in third person it is held in a conventional two-handed grip, like every other pistol.
  • Originally, the ASP had a different firing sound.
