BTR-80

From the Call of Duty Wiki

The BTR-80 is an 8x8 wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed in Russia. Production started in 1986 and replaced the previous versions, the BTR-60 and the BTR-70.

[edit] In game

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the player fights them in Wolverines! , Of Their Own Accord , Contingency and in Special Ops. It is the primary armored amphibious vehicle of the invading Russian forces. However, this is not entirely accurate, as in real life, the BTR-80 cannot be air-dropped using a parachute. A more realistic vehicle for the Russian forces would have been the BMD-series vehicle, most likely the BMD-2 or BMD-3. If the Russians were to use a BTR series vehicle, they would most likely use the BTR-90, a larger, more modern version of the BTR-80. The variant of the BTR-80 that appears in the game is the BTR-80A, which has a 30mm autocannon as a primary weapon. The BTR-80mi is also unfortunately not hardened by EMP, and the entry doors are electrically controlled, so the vehicle is completely immobilized by an EMP.

[edit] Trivia

  • These vehicles can not be damaged by bullets, frag grenades, or grenade launchers; however, RPGs, Predator Missiles, and Semtex can destroy them.
  • If you attempt to damage this vehicle with the GP-25 or the M203, the message saying "frag grenades cannot damage this vehicle" will still appear.
  • Destroying this vehicle in a Special Ops mission with scoring counts as a "Mega-Kill"; 3000-8000 points, depending on the way you destroyed it.
  • The BTR-80 is comparable to the Stryker by the Americans as they are both classified as eight-wheeled APC/IFV with HMGs and/or autocannons.
