Blast Shield is a Tier Two perk featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and a Resistance perk in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Blast Shield is a Tier 2 perk featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Blast Shield increases explosive resistance for the player by reducing all explosive damage dealt to the player by 45%. Blast Shield Pro is unlocked after surviving 20 enemy explosions. The Pro version grants the player a 50% resistance to both flashbangs and stun grenades, effectively halving the duration of special grenades. The perk and its Pro version are similar to Flak Jacket and Tactical Mask Pro from Call of Duty: Black Ops, although Blast Shield Pro is not as effective as either of those perks.

Blast Shield can be found useful in close-quarters maps, such as Dome or Hardhat where there are lots of explosives in use. Also, in Drop Zone, it can assist the player in capturing the drop zone significantly as it is usually a target for enemy explosives.

The Blast Shield, originally, didn't use a different multiplier for Hardcore game types unlike its Call of Duty: Black Ops predecessor, rendering its primary effect virtually useless in those modes. However, after a patch, Blast Shield is more useful to players so, whether it be equipment or launchers, they will be able to survive the explosion.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Blast Shield returns in Call of Duty: Ghosts. It provides increased resistance to explosive damage.

Trivia

  • At Call of Duty XP, to indicate someone using Blast Shield, the hitmarker icon was reused from Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

  • When simultaneously equipped with the Riot Shield, as long as the direct impact were to hit the shield as opposed to the wielder, a Semtex grenade could be withstood with minuscule health remaining.
