"The blokes we're after must be stuck in that far tower. I'll go left; you stick to the right."
— Sgt. Starkey to Carlyle

Sergeant Bob[1] Starkey is a commando in Popski's Private Army, a British special forces unit, who fought during World War II, as seen during the events of Call of Duty: Finest Hour.

Biography[]

Sergeant Bob Starkey commanded Troop A in the Battle of Matmata. On the night of 22 January 1943, the PPA engages in a raid on the Tunisian village of Matmata. Their objective is to destroy a munitions depot valuable to the Afrika Korps, and so Starkey splits his team into two troops for a pincer attack. Troop A, consisting of Starkey, Edward Carlyle, Holden, Joseph and the local partisan fighter Yusef, proceeds on foot through the outskirts of the village towards a German radio post. In the ensuing gunfight, a Panzer IV enters the fray and is subsequently destroyed by Carlyle. Starkey and the rest of the team proceeds to destroy the German communication antenna and later the munitions depot.

Once the munitions depot was destroyed Starkey and rest of Troop A begins to make their way to the fuel depot. On their way they destroyed 3 incoming Panzer IV tanks using German Tellermines. At the fuel depot Starkey provides covering fire for Carlyle while he sets demolition charges on the fuel tanks. After the depot is destroyed they rendezvous with Higgins from Troop B and they drive out from the village.

On the following morning Starkey, Carlyle and Higgins are on their way to provide support for the Long Range Desert Group who are trapped in an ancient fortress surrounded by the Germans. While refuelling their Jeep, Higgins was killed by a German sniper and Carlyle laid down suppressing fire for him. Once Starkey finished refuelling the Jeep the two made their way to the fortress through the crossfire between German and British forces. Before reaching the fortress a Stuka down bomber attacked the two which lead Starkey to lose control of the Jeep and crashing into the fortress.

Starkey and Caryle managed to recover from the crash and they were immediately engaged by German forces. Starkey provides Carlyle with C4 and instructs him to use it to destroy the archways allowing more German soldiers to enter the fortress meanwhile he took the left flank of the fortress. Starkey later re-appears at the end of the mission joining to Caryle and the others and the four soldiers escape the fortress through an underground tunnel.
