The Bomber (commonly referred to in-game as Dive Bombers) is an explosive enemy featured in the Extinction maps Awakening & Exodus.

Appearance[]

Bombers have a similar shape to Gargoyles, only significantly smaller. The Bombers are even smaller than Scouts and Seekers. Bombers also glow bright green all over their body. When a Bomber homes in on a target, the Bomber emits a red glow behind it.

Description[]

Like the Gargoyle, the Bomber is another flying cryptid in the extinction series.

Bombers essentially act as flying Seekers, as their objective is mostly the same: home in on a player and explode to deal large amounts of damage. When killed, Bombers give a base cash reward of $100.

Bombers spawn in groups ranging from two to six at a time at a very high point in the air on the map, and the player in-game will make an audible warning about the emergence of Bombers. In Awakening, if players are entering new areas or staying in areas for extended periods of time without an objective being completed, a set of Bombers will spawn in. When Bombers spawn in, they will fly towards a set point, stay still in the air at the set point for a brief moment, and then home in on a player. Bombers commonly tend to spawn in alongside Gargoyles as well.

On Awakening, when the player plants the Optical Scanner, several green turret plants will spawn in close proximity to the scanner. These turret plants are identical in shape to the Seeder turrets on Mayday. When these turret plants are present, more Bombers will spawn in at points when Bombers spawn in. These turret plants will release gas when a player approaches or attacks the turret plant, doing minor damage and disorienting the player slightly. It is very easy to forget to check certain areas for turret plants. Eliminating all the turret plants won't get rid of Bombers completely, but it will mean that less of them spawn in. These turret plants do not appear on Exodus.

Bombers are at their scariest when using the Vanguard. Bombers will actively seek out the Vanguard and blow up in its radius to deal damage. Every Bomber explosion that hits will deal 25 damage to the Vanguard, allowing them to make quick work of the Vanguard. Unlike with Scorpions, which also target the Vanguard, Bombers are far more difficult to dodge, as they actively home in on the Vanguard itself, and their explosive radius makes getting a hit on the Vanguard significantly easier. While someone is operating the Vanguard, Bombers will be the primary targets of allies protecting the Vanguard, as not only are Bombers plentiful on these sections, but the Vanguard often has a difficult time forcing a Bomber to miss. Often, the only time a Bomber will miss its target is when its homing on the target guides it into a wall, which can't always be done depending on the Vanguard's position. In the first Vanguard section, Bombers will oftentimes be successful if they get the chance to hit the Vanguard. On the second Vanguard section, however, Bombers will often be far less successful, as the Vanguard is often flown to far less open areas that the Bombers can freely fly through, and it is much easier to guide Bombers into walls in this section.

Bombers tend to be very hard to hit due to their mobile nature, their tendency to be far away when first spawning in, and small size. However, Bombers are some of the most fragile crypitds in Extinction and rarely need more than a couple of bullets to kill them. Like with Seekers, Incendiary Ammo and Cryptid Slayer Ammo is deadly against Bombers, as the afterburn effect in addition to a single bullet will usually deal enough damage to kill a Bomber outright. Sentry Guns and Vulture drones have no qualms with hitting Bombers and tend to be extremely effective against them. The Bombers also tend to be killed very easily by Tesla Anti-Air Defense Systems due to their fragility and the extremely long range of the Tesla Anti-Air Defense System. Explosives of any kind can kill a Bomber with ease, provided that the explosive gets close enough to the Bomber. Lingering clouds from a Venom-X or a Venom Grenade will often be fatal to Bombers as well should they enter the area of the lingering cloud while it is still active.

During the base defense sequence on Exodus, Bombers will commonly spawn in while the player(s) are defending the east side of the base. Not only do they spawn in with the Gargoyles, but they will often spawn in from the west end of the base, which can easily throw players off guard. They will also commonly clip through parts of the base en route to their resting point in the air before they decide to attack. They can spawn on the east side of the base's airspace in conjunction with Gargoyles, but it is far more common for Bombers to spawn in from the west side of the base, seemingly exiting the damaged building where one of the Remote Minigun is.

Like with Seekers, Bombers have a challenge associated with them to kill a set amount of Bombers before they can explode before the objective is completed. On these specific challenges, the game tends to spawn just barely enough Bombers to complete the challenge, so players have little room for error.
