- Q: What is Call of Duty?
A: Call of Duty is a video game franchise developed by Treyarch and Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It focuses on real-life war battles during World War II. One of the newest installments however, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare focuses on events that may happen in the near future. All of the games contain real-life weapons, such as the Thompson, the M1 Garand, the M4 carbine, and the MP5.
- Q: Sounds neat! What systems is it for?
A: The original Call of Duty was released on Oct 29, 2003 for the PC. Call of Duty 2 was released two years later for the PC and Xbox 360. Another year later, Call of Duty 3 came out for the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, and the Xbox. Another year later, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo DS. The newest installment, Call of Duty: World at War returns to World War II and was released for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS, Wii and PS2, under the name Call of Duty: World at War Final Fronts.
- Q: How often are Call of Duty games released?
A: On a yearly basis. The two game developers, Treyarch and Infinity Ward, have a shared contract with Activision. This allows for two years of development for each company, while still maintaining a yearly release date on their games. For example, Call of Duty 4 was developed by Infinity Ward, while Call of Duty: World at War was made by Treyarch. During the production and release of Call of Duty 4, Treyarch was already working on Call of Duty: World at War. Usually the games are released in November of each year.
- Q: So, I have to wait an entire year until a new game in the series like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out?
A: Yes, and no. You do have to wait until the new game comes out to get your hands dirty, but Treyarch will probably be releasing map packs and other Downloadable Content (DLC) for Call of Duty: World at War. Other possible DLC could be ranging from a new map to an entire campaign level to our new favorite game. As of October 12, 2009, Treyarch has released 3 Downloadable Content map packs. All are available on the Playstation store and Xbox 360 live market place. Each map pack is $9.99. Both map packs contain 3 new multiplayer maps and a new co-op zombie mode. On August 6th, 2009, Treyarch released another map pack, (Map Pack 3) that features the usual 3 multiplayer maps and the one new co-op zombie mode.

- Q: Okay, NOW I am definitely ready to buy this game! Is there anything else that I have to know?
A: Yes! You must learn that the road to level 55 (or 65 in Call of Duty: World at War) is very tough. You may shed a few tears after losing multiple times to the Japanese army. Remember this: during the long journey, you will be tested in skill, strength, and death-defyingness. You will master every weapon, you will master every vehicle; and you'll remember not to throw Tabun Gas Grenades at yourself.
