Removing DrkDragonz66 Edit

I think that we should remove drk from the news team, seeing as he always seems too "busy" to do anything. Thoughts? Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 12:52, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

I can see the logic with this, but would removing him actually do anything? Smuff[citation provided] 21:55, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
Per Smuff, and it's not like Drk makes bad news blogs, he just doesn't make them very often. KUDLq.png 22:03, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
When in the news team, you should be able to make news blogs whenever asked. Half the time i ask drk he says he is busy. Also him not being in the group frees up room for another member to join. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 22:07, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

Well, i dont see why you need to remove me to add someone else. Also, i did make a news blog about the infection gamemode being added, but you DELETED it. So screw off (inb4 UTP) OpalNyx SigNyx Sig talk 22:10, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

You only made that because you knew your place in the news team was on the line. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 22:12, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
  1. No it wasn't, i dont see how a conversation between just you and smuff gives you the right to "kick" me off.
  2. As i stated to you on IRC YESTERDAY, i made the news blog because it was late night and no one else was on. OpalNyx SigNyx Sig talk 22:17, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
That doesn't matter. If someone's job is on the line, usually, they get off their ass and do something about it. Drkdragonz did that, but you deleted his effort out of spite and under the incorrect claim that "he's not in the news team", when he was.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  22:31, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

No, he can stay thank you very much.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  22:11, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

Nice reasoning. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 22:12, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to have to agree with N7 on this one, if a member of the news team is unwilling to do news blogs and is often to "busy" then they should be removed to allow the team a greater flexibility to add someone who could do the job better and is more willing, I honestly haven't seen a Drk news blog since December. It could be in the greater interest of the team that they get a new member who would help take the load off as N7 described Drk does not. REDSKIN-26Personal Redskin-26 Squirtle sprite 22:14, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

And if the load of news is too much and the team decides to let Drk stay, they could always just add a new member. REDSKIN-26Personal Redskin-26 Squirtle sprite 22:17, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
Redskin, the reason you didnt see a news blog from me in january was because i was swamped with work and stuff from school. I actually made a blog yesterday, but then N7 deleted it. OpalNyx SigNyx Sig talk 22:18, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

He wasn't in the news team. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 22:25, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

He had been listed in the news team when the blog was created. You simply removed him from the news team, deleted the blog, and made it your own. KUDLq.png 22:28, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

Redskin's position on Weekly News TeamEdit

It has recently come to my attention that the non-news team member "This Username Better Work" has done more Weekly blogs than Redskin-26, the user he's apparently meant to be covering for. It is also apparent to me that his userpage claims he is "inactive". Since a user that is not part of the news team has actually done more blogs than the user he's doing them for it makes me think we should replace Redskins weekly news spot with with either Argorrath, since he's news team and free most of the time, or possibly with This Username Better Work since he's apparantly the one doing them. This outcome will not effect his position on the news team itself, only the weekly news. I have also had prior complaints from users about Redskins activity. 21:51, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
I'm gonna just sum up my thoughts from the original forum. Why not just go around, ask some news team members if they are alright with adding TUBW to the team, add him/don't add him, and call it a day. KUDLq.png 21:55, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Even though I'm in the bench here (since I don't really care who makes the news blog, nor why are we making such a deal about it), I have seen you mentioning certain complaints about Red's position on the news team. While I don't want to get into private matters, could you please tell us what the actual complaints are (without giving any names)? Since you keep mentioning them wherever this issue takes place.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo22:48, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
The complaint was due to him keeping his position on the news team despite being inactive, in both the fact that he has been quite inactive as well as the fact he's set his own status to inactive. This complaint came sometime after the rota was made and Redskin had missed several of his appointed slots. 23:43, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
It is very clear to almost everyone, news team or otherwise, that we don't actually use the rotation system, thus no one actually has a "slot". If this was happening long enough ago for their to have still been a rotation, why was this not brought up then? Furthermore, this is one compliant. You seem to imply you've received multiple. KUDLq.png 23:53, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
The issue did come up back then because that's when I started receiving the complaints, I just didn't act in them then since I wanted to give him some time and be still considered himself active. Furthermore I have receive multiple complaints, but that doesn't mean every complainer has given a unique reason. 04:47, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, why have these complainers not stepped forward and voiced their concerns here yet? This seems like the exact forum of discussion they should be involving themselves in. KUDLq.png 20:33, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Also, I only put forward replacing him for 2 reasons. Firstly, since TUBW had been doing his news blogs I felt he deserved that slot which would have been taken. Secondly, it would of made it easier on the template since we'd only have had to of change 1 icon. However since the Template got revamped anyway that's no longer one of the issues, I do still feel TUBW could deserve the posistion, however this is more about Redskin's posistion on the team, and not about putting new members on. 23:48, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
Removing Redskin from the team is ridiculous though. Cod4 says below that, if he is removed, he can be re-added the second he is able to become active again. That logic makes no sense, why remove someone who can just re-join whenever he wants when you could very well leave the issue alone? This whole conversation should have never started. I don't even know why TUBW making blogs ever related to Redskin in the first place. KUDLq.png 23:53, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
Why remove him? Well did you read the original statement? Because he's inactive, why is TUBW related? Because he's been doing Redskins blogs for him. So far you've more or less stated you think it's "silly" but not really given any reasoning to back up what you're saying. I feel that an inactive user should be removed from the team, simple as that. 04:47, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Okay so explain to me a few things. Why is Redskin being considered 100% inactive when he clearly joins chat often and posted on this very discussion. Second, just because TUBW did a weekly blog, doesn't mean he was specifically doing it for Redskin. I wasn't around when the decision was made, so I don't know the whole story, but unless Redskin said to TUBW "Hey I can't do the news this week, can you?" then Redskin has 0 relation to the blog this week.
And I haven't given reasoning? Your reasoning was proven to be nothing more than a mis-communication between Red and other news team members. I have given my reasoning many times, and yours has been proven moot. KUDLq.png 20:33, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Redskin isn't active much any more and I believe he acknowledges that. I think that he should be asked before we do any replacing, but he definitely needs to know that he really should be helping out more in terms of news blogs.

If we do remove him, it's not like it would be permanent. When he becomes active again he could just ask to be re-included in the community/weekly news team. Overall I support his temporary leave from the community/weekly news team however it is courteous to see what he himself has to say first.

Can I also quickly just remind everyone since the last discussion got thrown off topic a bit due to the location of the discussion, that this is to discuss Redskin's position on the news team.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  18:52, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

As for removing Redskin temporarily I do support the temporary leave. But he should be asked first if he would want to temporarily leave. Though this could be remedied with a bit more more help in news blogs.

As for if there should be a replacement if Redskin does go for temporarily leave, A vote from the news group to include which other user might be best. I though, don't mind not being chosen as I'm totally complacent with my current spot on the news team. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg20:57, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

It seems you've already been added to the WNT, so TUBW would likely be the best bet, since he's the user taking Red's blogs at present. 21:10, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

Only reason I didn't do the news blog this week was that Sam had done it last week, and Kat the week before. That is completely out of order so I'm not sure how I was supposed to know it was my week. Nobody had even given me a slightest heads up (kinda like this discussion that I am just now finding out about) Redskin-26 00:22, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Let me fill you up. Turns out we had this rotation thingie nobody except like 2 people knew about, that told the people that had to make the weekly news blog. That thingie got deleted today and now I don't even know why are we still making such a big deal of it. Also, apparently some people complained about your inactivity but idk about that since very little was said.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo00:26, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
To sum up what's going on, the schedule fell apart and became unused. Due to your relative in-activity, you likely never heard about it. We reverted to simply a system of shotting weekends by just being like "Alright, I've got news this week". And that's how we've been running for the last couple months now.
I wasn't around when it happened, so I don't know the whole story, but TUBW was given permission to do this weekends blog. After doing so, Sam made a comment on a a News Blog about how you have only done 1 Weekly Blog while TUBW has done 2. Despite my protests of making a large discussion out of it, that comment became a War Room forum, which is now a topic for discussion on this page.
All in all, it seems like the real topic that should be being discussed is whether or not to let TUBW on the team. Why Sam chose to make the topic about your position is anyone guess, but according to him, was sparked by a single complaint he received awhile ago as well as the fact that you list yourself as inactive on your userpage. BTW, not sure why you do that cause you still come around often enough :p.
The fact that you weren't informed about any of this is a failure of communication on all of our parts. I regret not leaving you a talk message about it, and I'm not sure why no one else did either. KUDLq.png 00:34, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Well thank you for the explanation. Redskin-26 00:37, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
This discussion is about removing an inactive user, not adding a new one. Stop trying to change the topic. 04:47, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Even thought said inactive user is right here? When, you know...he should be inactive? That kinds of nulls out the point of this whole godforsaken argument (which I don't keep knowing why are we still making such a big deal about it).-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo20:24, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Eltomo replied to a comment of mine today, yet no one has removed him from inactive admins. Just because he's replied doesn't mean he's 100% active. He's just not active enough to make the blogs or tell anyone when he's doing them. Just because he might come into chat on a blue moon doesn't mean he's active enough to stay. He's even set himself to inactive, so why don't we go change his status if we feel he's not inactive enough? Also the reason the person whom complained to me isn't here is because he choose to longer edit or chat here. 21:49, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Eltomo hasn't been in chat or edited since June. Meanwhile, Redskin has clearly been around. So maybe if you stop trying to act like this is a matter inactivity when it's clearly a matter of miscommunication, we can get somewhere. KUDLq.png 22:10, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
No, this is a matter of inactivity since that was my original point. Maybe it was miscommunication, but he's had 4-5 months to ask what was happening. The rota broke down in the first place because we kept having to jump to the next user because Redskin couldn't be found, even with reminders about when his night was. 22:29, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Didn't Redskin jut said that it was a matter of miscomunication, and that the rota had broken before? and from I hear, it was just this one week. Also, this is also a general problem for the whole weekly news team, since the only way I've seen people tell each other they're making the blogs are over S:C; Talk pages aren't there to look pretty, you know.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo22:41, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, he 'just' said it now, nothing has stopped Red in the last few months joining chat or asking on a talk page why the rota broke down. 22:50, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
"nothing has stopped Red" Oh right, forgot the wiki's all you have to do and there's no such thing as school and/or important things to worry about. Because you know all of his agenda. Seriously, I'm just beggining to think this should be a personal discussion between you, Red and TUBW. And as I said, since you deleted the rota and the banner's been fixed anyway, why are still going with this? Why don't we just add Argo and/or TUBW to the bloody list and call it a day? Since the order doesn't matter crap now, this whole thing has gone down to just taking him off just for the sake of taking him off. And we're still making too much of a big deal about, I mean, come on.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo22:59, March 14, 2013 (UTC)~
So he's active enough to make news blogs, but not active enough to ask what was going on? 23:04, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Well, he's active when you actually ask nicely : .-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo23:30, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Discussion closed - After people complained that the discussion should be moved here, it made its way away from here and onto other talk pages, with the original poster being left in the dust, both times. The inconsistency and inconsiderate nature of the discussion in this debate is enough to get it closed without any change. Furthermore the user who was the subject of this debate figured it would be better to respond to this on a different page. For future reference, make sure we:

  1. Stick to the topic
  2. Do not spring the topic off onto other pages, away from the original discussion

It's unfair to those who have put a ton of effort into discussing this to get it thrown off course by diverting it on a different one.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  01:39, March 15, 2013 (UTC)

Weekly news blog issueEdit

I understand that some may consider what I am about to say to be nit-picking, but I really think it should be said: There is a distinct lack of professionalism in the weekly news blogs.

Hear me out here: When the news blogs first began, they were to the point, and didn't contain much to throw off a new user. Now, if you look at the most recent news blog (not insulting Redskin's blog--just using an example), you may note a variety of jokes, a few instances of laziness, and an air of unprofessionalism that is not at all welcoming to new users. I am inclined to make some sort of reference chart or video explaining what it might be like to a new user to see one of these blogs.

My major problem with having these blogs be as layed back as they are is that they come off as clique-y. By that, I mean that the users that have been here long enough to understand the jokes are the clique, and new users that do not understand why this image is at the bottom of a Call of Duty Wiki news blog is there, or why "SCIENCE. BITCH!!!" happens to fall under "world news", are the outcasts. When you personalize a blog like this that is situated on the main page so that new and experienced users alike can see it easily, it really alienates the new users that don't know what a "news blog" is, or what has been going on in the community. I highly doubt someone who is here for the fist time will know why there are two links labeled "opinions", or what a "War Room" is, without these things being easily described in a single sentence.

I do understand that putting some pizzaz into the weekly news blogs keeps them fun for the users that are here for all of them, and I'm not saying we can't do that--it's just gotten to the point that the purpose of a news blog has shifted from putting all of the week's news into one, easy-to-access blog, to seeing how much you can get the community to laugh with hidden links and broken english in a mandatory recollection of news from the week.

I'm not asking for a new policy, or a shift in power, or anything like that. I'm just asking for a bit of consistency in these blogs. A little professionalism won't kill anybody. It is understandable that perhaps the popularity of news blogs over the span we've implemented them has decreased, and that their purpose isn't as noted as once before, but that's no reason to allow them to become a weekly representation of how little we care to publicly invite new users into our wiki with a simple, straight-forward, little nonsense news blog. Joe Copp 03:37, March 18, 2013 (UTC) (Apologies to Redskin for having to use his blog as an example)

Joe, Kat, and I had a debate about this in chat recently. Good points were brought up on both sides, so instead of seeing the same points brought up again, I thought I'd post this here [1] KUDLq.png 04:08, March 18, 2013 (UTC)
