Changes to the rules[]

There are two rules here that I intensely disagree with and one that needs to be added. The rule that needs to be added is that only confirmed weapons should get pages. The L96, L85, and any other weapons listed as "highly probable" should not get pages. Now for the rules I don't like. "Do not talk about how the gun's name in game is incorrect or whatever. These are complete worthless discussions that seems more like a show-off contest between gun fans than a real discussion." If Infinity Ward makes a mistake, we should make note of it. This wiki is here to inform. "Do not write that the weapon sucks and/or is overpowered. Nobody cares." This is just idiotic to the point of absurdity. Obviously we won't know about this until the game comes out, but when it does, that is extremely important information that everyone cares about (if they don't, they are either stupid or don't care about the game, in which case they shouldn't be coming here). These changes need to happen. Imrlybord7 17:21, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Bring it up in the war room for a vote--Bigm2793 17:33, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
I just did that, but there is no link to the page from the War Room forum list. Here's the URL, can someone help me out? http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Changes_to_the_MW2_weapon_page_rules Imrlybord7 17:58, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
Something worth considering adding is an specific "Inaccuracies" section, which I've seen being included in some weapon articles. It cleans up the trivia section, allows people to share factual information and provides a more comprehensive article. --Scottie theNerd 20:23, December 25, 2009 (UTC)

Shortcut[]

We need wiki shortcuts to this policy (and others that haven't been linked) to make reference easier. --Scottie theNerd 07:45, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

clarification[]

I says not to mention real-life events surouning the weapon, we should make it clear that this excepts when an event in game references said event. Agent Tasmania 03:01, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Quick question[]

Why aren't we allowed to add IRL info? (Please give me a reason other than "We're the CoD wiki not the Gun wiki",) thanks. Sgt. S.S. 14:23, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Someone else can provide the link to the War Room discussion later. Basically, as part of the Overhaul project and the subsequent Real Life cleanup project, we've taken stance that we are removing all real-life exclusive information to better focus on the in-game characteristics and information. The main reason was that real-life or historical information easily bloated and filled up the majority of articles while leaving barely anything to do with the in-game item. As a result, we collectively made a decision that since we are the CoDwiki and not Wikipedia (rather than a gun wiki), we cannot provide anything that isn't already covered extensively elsewhere and that RL information has to go. It's much better that we focus on providing extensive and accurate COD info; not tap into our armchair soldiers. --Scottie theNerd 22:32, July 16, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I understand now. Thanks. Sgt. S.S. 14:14, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

The "Do Nots" Section[]

The mods should really edit the Do Nots section so it doesn't sound like a bunch of discrunteled forum junkies wrote it, instead of it being more professional.

It currently looks like this:

When adding onto a weapon page in general, do not:

  • Talk about how the gun's name in game is incorrect or whatever. These are completely worthless discussions that seems more like a show-off contest between gun fans than a real discussion.
  • Use "You", "I" or any other first or second pronouns. This makes the wiki page sound like a blog, not an information source anyone can read.
  • Do not write that the weapon's accuracy/recoil isn't exactly like it is in real life. This is pointless because the Call of Duty series are video games; their point is to be fun, not realistic.
  • Do not talk about the gun in real life.

Which makes it sound a little whiny and repettive. The first one most of all sounds like the mod just finished wrapping up an argument between gun nuts. You could write it to sound more calm and professional, like:

"Talk about how any of the gun's characteristics (including its name) are incorrect or unrealistic. These arguments drive away from how the game functions and clutters the page with information that most players will not find any use for. Complaints about how the developer incorectly designed the weapon will be deleted and disiplinary measures will be taken."

Sounds more professional, and as a bonus, removes the need for numbers three and four.

Just sayin' (Caustic260) 14:38, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

Different Games, Different Names[]

In Black Ops, many of the gun names are different from the MW series, such as removing the hyphens from the AKs and lowercasing Famas. Which name should the article use? I propose that we use the name that appears in the most recent game. Bioniclepluslotr 22:32, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

Country of Origin?[]

ive seen alot of editing between the Type 95 and the FAD regarding Country of Origin.i don't see the problem of someome saying the gun is the first chinese/peruvian weapon in the series, sort of like the G11 firing caseless ammuntion which is notable ingame.can someone please provide a ruling on this? Elite 20:28, September 29, 2011 (UTC)

Unless it is stated in game, technically it does count as "In Real Life" so it should be removed since we normally don't allow information regarding the guns IRL. Carbonite 0 01:16, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

WTF[]

However, you can add things like the Call of Duty guy reloading the gun the wrong way, since that has nothing to do with technical issues.

Pardon my French, but why the hell is this bollocks still on the page? I thought we got shot of all IRL info. Sgt. S.S. 18:01, October 26, 2011 (UTC)
