Desert camouflage is a pattern of camouflage used by the military for use in desert and urban desert environments. It uses similar shades as those seen in a natural desert environment in order to allow the camouflaged person or item to blend in with its surroundings. The in-game camo is NOT the US Army tri-color Desert Combat Uniform (DCU) camo (it features two shades of brown and lacks the light green color).

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Desert camouflage is available on any weapon as a default. It can only be used in online multiplayer.

It is not commonly used by experienced players, who generally use patterns obtained through awards. Camouflage is used more as a sign of rank than as an actual tactic, and, therefore, desert camouflage is quickly discarded once higher camouflage patterns are attained. Other reasons may be the aesthetic inferiority of the default camouflages, which makes most players immediately switch to the more complex patterns after obtaining them.
