Erosion is a multiplayer map for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It is played with the new Face Off gamemode. The map was released for Xbox 360 players for free on May 15, 2012 and is also available to PS3 players for free.

TriviaEdit

• There is a Teddy Bear inside one of the towers, and can only be seen through spectating.
• There is glass on the monastery roof that cannot be broken.
• Contrary to popular belief, the location of this map is the fishing town of Herculaneum, not Pompeii. This is evident through map design. The presence of two buildings which are more than a story high shows that it is Herculaneum due to the fact that no multiple-storey buildings survived Pompeii due to heavy ash and pumice fallout. Furthermore, the furthest west street is not curved. Pompeian streets had a signifcant curve to allow run-off of waste. In other words, a design to keep the streets clean without too much maintenance. The map is also clearly situated at the base of Mt. Vesuvius. This shows that the map is certainly Herculaneum because Pompeii is not situated at the base of Mt Vesuvius. 
• This is the first map in the Call of Duty series that has an active volcano in the background. The second one is Magma in the Uprising Map Pack in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
