|Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3|
|Strike Package Reward|
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Edit
The Escort Airdrop is called in with a marker grenade, just like a Care Package. A V-22 Osprey will arrive at the location marked by the grenade and hover over it before it begins to drop four Care Package crates and one Airdrop Trap. Occasionally the Airdrop Trap will be substituted for a 5th Care Package. Contrary to popular belief, the Care Package crates will contain both Support Strike Package pointstreaks and Assault Strike Package pointstreaks, however the former are much more common.
The Osprey will continue to hover over the marked area and will shoot enemies who enter its firing range until about 15 seconds elapse or it is shot down. It is important to remember that the Osprey will hover for a while before dropping the crates, so protecting the area from enemies for a period of time needs to be taken into consideration. Also enemies using the Blind Eye perk will not be detected by the Escort Airdrop, leaving the Care Packages it drops at risk to be stolen. So even though the Osprey may hover and protect the packages, extra caution must be taken for enemies using Blind Eye. The Osprey can be shot down before it drops any crates. The Osprey has two sets of flares it can activate before getting shot down. Two rockets must be used to deplete the flares, while the third rocket (except from a SMAW, due to its relatively low damage) will take the Osprey down. Famous players like Cat-Gopher [GS] can shoot these down. Cat-Gopher [GS] can also shoot down UAVs, Advanced UAVs, AH-6 Overwatches, Attack Helicopters, Pave Lows and even whole Strafe Runs.
- Escort Airdrop do not have pilots, like the Osprey Gunner.
- Similar to the Osprey Gunner, if viewed in Theatre mode when the Osprey fires the blast comes from the front wheel of the Osprey instead of the turret.
- Escort Airdrops do not have flares on the Wii version.
