[edit] History
First produced in 1994, the FGM-148 Javelin is a state-of-the-art anti-armor system produced for the U.S. military. The Javelin uses either a 'top-attack' method to penetrate the thinly armored turret or roof of MBTs and other armored vehicles, or a 'direct fire mode'. Apart from the U.S. armed forces, the Javelin is also operated by nations such as the U.K., Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Jordan, the Czech Republic, Taiwan, and the UAE.
[edit] In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The FGM-148 Javelin appears exclusively in the single-player campaign, most notably in the missions, The Bog and Heat. It can also be found in Safehouse, and All In.
[edit] In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
The Javelin is the second-to-last launcher unlocked in Multiplayer. It functions similarily to the Stinger, but has a more sophisticated targeting system (Targetable vehicles that are offscreen have arrows pointed toward them.)
[edit] Trivia
- A single missile costs around $80,000.
- A British SAM system also known as the Javelin exists.
- There is a glitch in Heat that lets you see a Javelin missile:
When you get the Javelin, move to the fence on your right and fire at the blue roof. If done correctly, the Javelin missile should bounce a few times and fall to the floor. If done incorrectly, the missile will hit the roof before it goes up and it will blow up and it will say "Friendly fire will not be tolerated".
- A similar glitch exists on the level The Bog. After getting the missile, move to the right (facing the overpass) and fire at the extension of the building from just outside of the distance indicating "not enough room to fire".
- If done correctly, the missile will hit the building and fall and then collect it.
- If you are too close, the missile will not fire.
- If you are too far, the missile will explode when it hits the building, killing you and your allies and the message "Friendly fire will not be tolerated!" will appear.
- Much like a real Javelin system, the Javelin takes a top-attack flight profile when attacking armored vehicles, with the strange exception of All In where the missile will fly directly towards the enemy BMPs, just like how the Stinger flies directly towards aircraft (straight on). Even the direct-fire mode of the Javelin will still go up in the air.
- The Javelin is unlocked at level 50 in Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer.
