The FMG9 is a machine pistol featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as a secondary weapon. It was cut from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

Campaign[]

The FMG9 appears in the mission "Turbulence".

Multiplayer[]

The FMG9 is available in one of the default classes, and is available when Create-a-Class is unlocked.

The FMG9 is a high damage, moderate range machine pistol. At any range short of ten meters, the FMG9 will deal forty damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until 17.5 meters, At any range past 17.5 meters, the FMG9 will deal twenty damage per bullet, needing five shots to kill. The FMG9 has a three shot kill range of 12.25 meters, and a four shot kill range of 15.6 meters. The FMG9 has a one shot kill range in Hardcore of 13.8 meters. Although the FMG9 has the best per-shot damage of all machine pistols, its four shot kill range falls well short of the MP9. The FMG9 has low penetration power.

The FMG9's biggest strength is its rate of fire. It has the fastest fire rate of all machine pistols, with a fire rate of 1052 RPM. Among fully automatic weapons, only the PM-9 fires faster, a weapon which has even shorter range than the FMG9.

The FMG9's accuracy is abysmal. The iron sights are relatively clear, but the enormous fire rate and recoil make the FMG9 extremely inaccurate. The FMG9 has recoil values of 70 to the left and to the right. The FMG9 also has no downwards recoil value, always kicking up with a value of either 25 or 65. This causes constant upwards recoil pull, and the FMG9 also has a fair amount of horizontal recoil to boot. The centerspeed of 1500 is not capable of counteracting the combination of heavy per-shot recoil and the enormous fire rate. The user will have to greatly limit their fire rate when using the FMG9 should they want to preserve accuracy.

The FMG9's handling characteristics are standard for a machine pistol. One quirk the FMG9 has is that it takes a long time to first switch to the FMG9, as the player must unfold the FMG9 upon first switching to it. After having unfolded it, the FMG9's switch speeds heavily improve. As such, it is common practice for FMG9 users to quickly switch to the FMG9 as they spawn in to get this process out of the way and have the FMG9 available for later, alternatively they can use Sleight of Hand to somewhat minimise the time spent unfolding the firearm.

The FMG9 allows users to move at 100% of the base movement speed, and strafe at 80% of the base movement speed. The FMG9's hip-fire accuracy is good, on par with other machine pistols and magazine-fed handguns. The FMG9's reload speeds are standard for a machine pistol, with a reload animation that is 2.73 seconds long, or 3.3 seconds long on an empty magazine. In either case, the FMG9 can Reload Cancel after 1.83 seconds. This reload cancel speed is tied with the Skorpion and the G18.

Another enormous strength of the FMG9 is its magazine capacity. It has the largest magazine capacity in its class, holding 36 rounds per magazine. The FMG9 also has a large starting ammo loadout, allowing users to spawn in with 144 rounds. This makes sustained fire possible with the FMG9 despite its monstrous fire rate.

The FMG9 has the standard assortment of machine pistol attachments on offer. The Silencer reduces muzzle flash, makes the FMG9 quieter when firing, and prevents the FMG9 from revealing the user on radar, in exchange for 25% of the FMG9's range. The FMG9 was never built for use beyond close range combat, so the Silencer doesn't infringe on the FMG9's playstyle much at all. As such, it is a good fit on the FMG9, although there are better attachments on offer.

Akimbo is by far the best and most common attachment used on the FMG9. The FMG9 will have a slightly larger hip-fire spread and the fire rate of each FMG9 will be reduced to 821 RPM, but this still provides an enormously powerful weapon in CQC. Like with the Silencer, forcing the FMG9 to be hip-fire only really doesn't limit the user all that much when the FMG9 wasn't usable in medium or long range combat to begin with, and it bolsters the FMG9's already sweltering close-quarters presence. It is very rare to see an enemy FMG9 user that is not using this attachment.

The optical attachments are available, and they are a waste of space, seeing the FMG9's lacking ranged combat capability.

Extended Mags increases the FMG9's magazine capacity to an enormous 54 rounds, and increases the starting ammo loadout to 216 rounds. This attachment has no downside and two very relevant upsides, but many will consider Akimbo too good to pass on with the FMG9.

Overall, the FMG9 is entirely about close-quarters domination. The FMG9's exorbitant fire rate and good magazine capacity makes the FMG9 among the easiest weapons in the game to use at close range, and among the most effective. The FMG9's unique first switch weakness is one that is easily circumvented, but forgetting to do so can put the user in a serious bind when they need to switch to it in a pinch. The FMG9 serves as a great replacement for an SMG, providing close-quarters performance similar to a PM-9 from the secondary slot. Its ease of use and high upside makes the FMG9 among the most commonly used secondary weapons in multiplayer, to the extent that the FMG9 has fostered a negative reputation due to its abundance of use.

After a patch, the FMG9's hip fire spread was expanded and its recoil was increased after Infinity Ward received several complaints from players calling the weapon "overpowered", especially with Akimbo. Like the other machine pistols in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the FMG9 has a slower rate of fire when used with Akimbo. The patch prior to this one actually increased the rate of fire, which was an unintentional mistake. Due to this, a very common tactic was for players to run around with Akimbo FMG9's. The Wii version never received this patch, and the tactic still persists on that platform because of this.

The FMG9 also appears in the Infected game "Knife vs FMG-9", where it has Akimbo.
