The M202 FLASH "Grim Reaper" [1] is a multi-shot rocket launcher that appears in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is able to fire up to four rockets in one load.

Campaign[]

The Grim Reaper only appears in the missions "Numbers" and "Victor Charlie", but it is also used by Frank Woods and Joseph Bowman in "Crash Site".

In the campaign only, it is possible for the player to fire multiple rockets at once, by simply entering ADS and pressing the hold breath button. A number next to the sight will rotate, indicating how many rockets will be fired.

Multiplayer[]

The Grim Reaper can only be obtained from a Care Package (five kill streak, four with Hardline). It can either lock onto killstreaks or be free-fired.

Once the user fires a single rocket from the Grim Reaper, the weapon is considered deployed, and the Multiplayer announcer will declare the presence of the Grim Reaper to both teams. Dying with the Grim Reaper while the weapon is deployed will cause the Grim Reaper to be discarded, not carrying over into the next life. Switching away from the Grim Reaper while it is deployed will also discard it. If the user has not deployed the Grim Reaper yet, then dying or switching off of the Grim Reaper will not discard it.

Each explosion has an explosive radius of 6.4 meters. The Grim Reaper has no damage drop-off in the explosive radius, dealing 150 damage throughout the entire area of the explosion, killing any enemy caught in its explosive radius. So long as the enemy is not using Flak Jacket, any player caught in the blast radius of a Grim Reaper rocket will die. Direct hits will deal 500 damage, killing a Flak Jacket user instantly. The excess damage also makes the Grim Reaper still usable against a Flak Jacket user, as each rocket's explosion will deal 52 damage to an enemy using Flak Jacket, allowing for two rocket hits to kill the Flak Jacket user. The rockets have no safe distance before detonation, so it is possible for the user to damage themselves using the Grim Reaper. Any self-damage from the Grim Reaper is fatal unless using Flak Jacket.

The Grim Reaper fires semi-automatically, with a maximum rate of fire of 125 RPM.

The Grim Reaper has heavy upwards recoil with every shot, and a centerspeed value of 2500. Rockets will veer off-course whilst they travel through the air.

The Grim Reaper allows users to move at 80% of the base speed, or strafe at 40% of the base speed. The Grim Reaper cannot be hip-fired, and trying to do so will instead raise the sights to fire a shot. The Grim Reaper allows users to aim down the sight in 500 milliseconds. The Grim Reaper's reload animation is 6.85 seconds long. The user can Reload Cancel after 4.25 seconds.

The Grim Reaper has a rocket capacity of four rockets, and the Grim Reaper's starting ammo loadout is twelve rockets total. The starting ammo loadout cannot be increased through the use of Scavenger Pro, a trait unique to the Grim Reaper among launchers.

The Grim Reaper can be used in an anti-aircraft role, with the ability to lock onto aircraft and fire. The Grim Reaper has enough total ammo to bring down any aerial killstreak in the game, even when accounting for flares.

Trivia[]

  • In the World Premiere trailer, the Grim Reaper had a different reticle.
  • Prior to a patch, a notification appeared to all players in a multiplayer match stating "Grim Reaper Equipped". After the patch, the notification now only appears to the team of the player who acquired the Grim Reaper.
  • Although it functions as "Semi-Automatic", within the weapon script it is referred as "Stack Fire".
