The M72 LAW is a Rocket Launcher featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance.

The M72 LAW was planned to appear in the mission "That's No Sandstorm". However, the mission was scrapped and the M72 LAW is cut from the final version of the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

The M72 LAW does not appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a usable weapon, nor it is ever seen in game, but it is briefly mentioned through Russo-American War Radio Transmissions.

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]

Campaign[]

The M72 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon) is used to destroy three tanks during the mission "S.O.G." It cannot lock onto the tanks. It is found in a bunker, along with a couple of M60s.

Multiplayer[]

The M72 LAW is the only launcher available when Create-a-Class is unlocked.

The M72 LAW is the only hybrid launcher in Create-A-Class. The Grim Reaper is also a hybrid launcher, but that can only be attained via Care Package. The M72 LAW is capable of either locking onto aircraft, or freely fired.

It should be noted that the M72 LAW is less adept than the Strela-3 at anti-aircraft, as the M72 LAW's rockets fly much more slowly through the air. This makes it take longer to destroy aircraft, especially if the aircraft attempts to dodge the rocket. This can lead to the M72 LAW being unintentionally led into an obstacle as it attempts to home in on the target, a problem that happens far less often than with the Strela-3. The longer time it takes for the M72 LAW to hit a target can cause aerial killstreaks to get an extra kill or so before the rocket hits them.

The M72 LAW has no safe distance, and the rocket explodes when it hits any surface. This makes it capable of damaging or outright killing its user.

The M72 LAW has an explosive radius of 5.62 meters. The M72 LAW will deal anywhere from 160 damage to 70 damage depending on the enemy's proximity to the explosion, when applicable. The M72 LAW is capable of killing an enemy with a single rocket, but will not always kill enemies when they are hit. The M72 LAW has a one hit kill radius of 3.75 meters. If an enemy is directly hit by the M72 LAW, the rocket will deal 1000 damage, killing the enemy directly hit by the explosive instantly, regardless of whether or not they were using Flak Jacket. Against a Flak Jacket user, a direct hit is required to kill them outright without any assistance from other sources of damage. The M72 LAW has no body multipliers. The M72 LAW is completely incapable of Surface Penetration, although it can break through glass without being forced to explode upon contact with it.

The M72 LAW is a single shot weapon that must be reloaded after a rocket is fired. Reloading the M72 LAW is not possible by default, as reserve ammo must be acquired through Scavenger Pro, ammo from a Care Package, or by picking up ammo from an M72 LAW on the ground. If a reserve rocket is present, factoring in the reload speed, the M72 LAW has an intended maximum rate of fire of 14 RPM. This can be increased by hastening the reload via Sleight of Hand and/or performing a Reload Cancel.

The M72 LAW allows users to move at 80% of the base movement speed, or 40% when strafing. The M72 LAW is completely incapable of hip-fire, and trying to do so simply performs the aim down sight function before firing. Aiming down the sight takes 500 milliseconds. If possible, the M72 LAW's reload animation is three seconds long, with the Reload Cancel being 1.7 seconds long.

The M72 LAW requires Scavenger Pro to be able to destroy an aircraft that can deploy flares, so if the user plans on attacking such aircraft, it'd be wise to use Scavenger Pro. Otherwise, the M72 LAW on its own is only able to get the aircraft to expend its flares before the M72 LAW runs out of ammo.

The M72 LAW is also featured in Gun Game, where it is Tier 17.

Zombies[]

In Zombies, the M72 LAW is available in the Mystery Box and comes with 21 rockets on every map, excluding Dead Ops Arcade. It is not very useful though, as it creates crawlers and it has a very slow reload. Speed Cola is strongly recommended, as is PhD Flopper on Ascension, Call of the Dead, Shangri-La and Moon. The player should replace it with another weapon as soon as possible or Pack-a-Punch it.

When upgraded, it becomes the "M72 Anarchy," featuring a 10 round capacity and a fully-automatic fire mode. The player will no longer automatically aim down the sights when firing the upgraded version, thus allowing a faster rate of fire. The M72 Anarchy is much more effective than the stock version and is often underestimated, even though it can down a horde of zombies in higher rounds with only two to three shots with power that is higher than that of the upgraded Ray Gun, provided that the rocket as well as the splash damage hits. The only real downfall is that it does not accumulate points very fast, nor does it kill very fast in later rounds.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Nintendo DS)[]

The M72 LAW appears as one of the two launchers in the Nintendo DS version of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The player must look through the sight in order for the weapon to fire. Unlike on the consoles, this weapon has multiple uses, having up to three rockets in reserve ammo. In Multiplayer, it is unlocked for the allied faction after 150 kills with the Remington 870, and 150 kills with the M72 LAW will unlock the M79, always for the allied faction.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

The M72 LAW returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance, and is almost identical in both aspect and stats to the previous variant.

  • On the left side of the M72 Law under the iron sights, it shows firing instructions like; "Pull Open Unlocked Here".
  • As seen in "That's No Sandstorm"'s localization strings, the M72 LAW was originally planned to appear in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
  • The Pack-a-Punched version, the M72 Anarchy refers to the opposite of the normal name M72 LAW.
  • On the Nintendo Wii version of Call of Duty: Black Ops, the glass part of the M72 LAW has white markings, rather than black, and are therefore much more visible, but are the same shape.
  • Even if shot at a helicopter without locking on, the helicopter will deploy flares.
