The MG4 is a light machine gun featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance, and Call of Duty Online.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Campaign[]

The MG4 is a rare weapon that only appears in the Task Force 141 campaign. It is seen being used by Shadow Company in "Just Like Old Times", and can be found and used in "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday", "The Gulag" and "Contingency". It has a lower rate of fire than its multiplayer counterpart and can only hold a maximum of 200 rounds spare. For these reasons, other weapons are usually better alternatives. It never appears with any attachments.

Multiplayer[]

The MG4 is unlocked at level 16, making it the third LMG available.

The MG4 does thirty damage at all ranges, needing four shots to kill. Getting a Headshot or using Stopping Power increases the damage to 42 damage per bullet, allowing for a three shot kill. If a headshot is attained while using Stopping Power, the MG4 deals 58 damage, guaranteeing a two shot kill. If using a Silencer, the MG4's damage reduces to twenty damage per bullet, needing five shots to kill. A headshot or standard Stopping Power shot when using the Silencer deals 28 damage, returning the MG4 to a four shot kill, but not a one shot kill in Hardcore. When using a Silencer, if using Stopping Power and a headshot is obtained, the bullet does 39 damage, guaranteeing a one shot kill in Hardcore, but two headshots are needed to guarantee a three shot kill. The MG4 has high penetration power.

The MG4 fires fully automatically, with a fire rate of 857 RPM.

The MG4's iron sights are misaligned, as the true point of aim is slightly below the implied tip on the front post. The MG4 has recoil values of 60 to the left, 60 to the right, 50 upwards, and 30 downwards. The MG4 has a centerspeed value of 1700. The MG4 has slightly more idle sway than the other LMGs, and it actually has the fastest idle sway speed in the game, swaying 60% faster than the sniper rifles.

The MG4 restricts users to 87.5% of the base movement speed, or a strafe speed of 35%. The MG4 has an aim down sight time of 350 milliseconds, and the MG4's hip-fire accuracy is poor. The MG4's reload animation is 9.7 seconds long, although the user can Reload Cancel the MG4 after 7.13 seconds.

The MG4's default belt capacity is 100 rounds, and the MG4's default starting ammo loadout is 200 rounds.

The MG4 has the standard assortment of LMG attachments on offer. Most attachments work as expected on the MG4. However, the Silencer and FMJ have unusual effects when used on the MG4. The Silencer does not work properly on the MG4, as a silenced MG4 will reveal the user's position on radar when firing. As for FMJ, an MG4 equipped with FMJ is called Explosive Rounds, but the attachment otherwise functions properly on the MG4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized[]

The MG4 appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized as one of the two LMGs in-game. The MG4 shares the same basic appearance as its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 counterpart, but the ammunition is stored in a box as opposed to a cloth bag. The MG4 has a higher rate of fire, as well as a higher damage per bullet. The MG4 is only used by the Insurgency in the levels "Interception", "Needle in a Haystack", "To the Rig", "Winter Assault", and "Last Chance".

The MG4 was cut from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Its textures however, can be found in the game's files.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

The MG4 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. It has the same model and stats (except it now has recoil) of Mobilized, but when aiming down sights all the weapon turns into an M249 SAW strangely. In Gun Game, the MG4 is the eighteenth weapon tier.

Call of Duty Online[]

The MG4 returns in Call of Duty Online as the MAG43.
