Punta Gorda (Spanish for Fat/Thick Point) is an M1128 Mobile Gun System that appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It appears in the mission "Team Player", and is part of a convoy of vehicles on the bridge. It then enters Tunnel Harvey with the Humvee 'Blue Steel' and disappears, apparently into a wall, as if the player gets out of the map using the glitch in the school playground, and then go up to that tunnel and go inside, it is a dead end.

Service[]

It is never seen after entering the tunnel so its status is unknown. It probably survived the invasion of the town, as the OpFor are easily conquered and Punta Gorda was obviously far from the massive ambushes concentrated around the school, which the OpFor was using as their headquarters in the town. It is one of the only two M1128 Mobile Gun Systems vehicles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the other being Bugs.

Bugs and Punta Gorda are the only two M1128 Mobile Gun Systems that take part in the Rangers' invasion in "Team Player". Bugs is the only M1128 Mobile Gun System in the level which the player sees having any interaction with the enemy, as it is giving fire support to the Rangers and destroying an OpFor BMP-2. What Punta Gorda's role in the invasion is unknown, as it never actually fires its turret in the presence of the player. It is most likely, however, that Punta Gorda was simply intended to help with patrolling the part of the town that the player was not assigned to.

Trivia[]

  • Punta Gorda is the name of several towns, cities and geographic locations in Uruguay, Belize, Nicaragua and the United States (in California and Florida). The vehicle is likely named after a US location.
  • Punta (lit. "point") is a common Spanish toponym for peninsula, cape or promontory, while Gorda means fat, but also thick, which suits the geographic meaning better in English.
  • Punta Gorda may sometimes run over friendly NPCs when the bridge has been laid.
