The W1200 (called the Winchester 1200 in the game files) is a pump-action shotgun featured in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Call of Duty: Mobile and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. It was cut from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered[]

"Pump action shotgun. Effective at close range."
— Weapon description

Campaign[]

In the campaign, Mac is seen holding the shotgun in the level "F.N.G.". The W1200 shotgun is used for door breaching in the mission "Charlie Don't Surf". Gaz uses the W1200 shotgun in the mission "Crew Expendable", while Lt. Vasquez uses a unique W1200 without the fixed stock. The W1200 shotgun is found in the missions "Charlie Don't Surf", "The Bog", "One Shot, One Kill" and "The Sins of the Father".

Multiplayer[]

In multiplayer, the W1200 shotgun is the first shotgun available at level 2, when the Demolitions default class is unlocked.

The W1200 has higher damage but less range than the M1014. The W1200 fires eight pellets per shot. At any range short of 7.5 meters, the W1200 will deal forty damage per pellet, needing three out of eight pellets in a shot to hit to kill in one shot. Damage decreases linearly until 12.5 meters. At 12.5 meters, the W1200 does ten damage per pellet, needing ten pellets to kill, or more than one shot worth of pellets. The W1200 ceases to do any damage past 12.5 meters. The W1200 has a three pellet kill range of 8.5 meters, a four pellet kill range of ten meters, and a five pellet kill range of 10.8 meters. The W1200 has a superior four pellet kill range than the M1014 and the M1014 is completely incapable of getting three pellet kills without Stopping Power, but the M1014 has superior pellet kill ranges when needing more than four pellets. The W1200's total range is rather short even for a shotgun, but its effective range is decent enough. The W1200 has low penetration power, and no positive body multipliers, typical for a shotgun.

The W1200's damage per pellet increases with the use of Stopping Power. At any range short of 7.5 meters, the W1200 will deal 56 damage per pellet, needing just two of the eight pellets in a shot to hit in order to kill in a single shot. Damage decreases linearly until 12.5 meters. At 12.5 meters, the W1200 will deal fourteen damage per pellet, needing eight pellets - or all pellets in a single shot - to hit in order to kill. The W1200 ceases to do any damage past 12.5 meters. The W1200's three, four, and five pellet kill ranges are also improved when using Stopping Power. Outside of Hardcore - where a shotgun is of questionable value anyway - Stopping Power is extremely valuable on the W1200 and should almost always be used.

The W1200's fire rate is poor. Being pump-action, the W1200 fires significantly slower than the M1014, firing at just 80 RPM. The M1014 user can nearly empty their entire tube in the time the W1200 takes to fire two shots. Although 80 RPM is higher than one comes to expect from a pump action shotgun, it is still a very slow fire rate that will highly jeopardize the user as they pump the shotgun.

The W1200 has good accuracy for a shotgun. The iron sights are simple, and the W1200 has an extremely tight hip-fire spread, on par with the Desert Eagle for the tightest default hip-fire accuracy in the game. Aiming down the sights does not tighten up the shot spread at all, and actually makes the spread wider, while also restricting movement speed in the process. As a result, it is wise to never aim down the sights with a W1200, for the advantages conferred by doing so are minimal. The W1200 has very large recoil per shot and a very low centerspeed of 500. Although the W1200 fires very slowly, recoil will actually accumulate when firing the W1200 as fast as possible. That being said, recoil is of little concern at the ranges the W1200 can deal damage at.

The W1200 has good handling traits. The W1200 allows users to move at 100% of the base movement speed and strafe at 80% of the base movement speed. The W1200 allows users to aim down the sights in 200 milliseconds. The W1200, sadly, reloads on a shell-by-shell basis. The first shell takes 0.6 seconds to load, and every subsequent shell takes 0.57 seconds to reload, with an ending animation that is 0.77 seconds long. If reloading the entire tube, the reload animation can be as long as 8.3 seconds, which is the longest reload in the game. Reload Cancelling is extremely beneficial and allows for partial top ups of the tube. The user will usually be micromanaging their ammo with the W1200 due to the slow reloads, and the user will commonly have it on their mind while using the W1200.

The W1200 has a good shell capacity, holding seven shells in the tube. Although that sounds small, the fact that the W1200 fires at only 80 RPM and can realistically get one shot kills means the user will not empty the tube in rapid fashion too often. The W1200 has a starting ammo loadout of 28 rounds by default, which doubles to 56 with Bandolier. The W1200 is not very dependent on Bandolier, as 28 is more than enough to last to get a good killstreak and then some.

The W1200 has two attachments on offer: the Red Dot Sight and the Grip.

The Red Dot Sight is little more than decoration on the W1200, as it replaces the iron sights, which aren't used much anyway on the W1200 seeing how it does not gain any relevant advantage from aiming down the sights.

The Grip is a far more interesting attachment option, but arguably a worse one. The Grip will reduce the W1200's recoil values by twenty points each, and will reduce the shot spread while aiming down the sight, but not to a degree that it is even beneficial, as the shot spread with a Grip is still larger than just firing from the hip normally. The main problem with the Grip is that it uses up the user's perk 1 slot. The W1200 is more than functional without the Grip, and at the ranges the W1200 is being used at, the Grip will rarely confer a combat advantage. Oftentimes, the user will be better off with the perk 1 slot than the Grip.

Overall, the W1200 has a unique feel as it pertains to slow-firing shotguns. It fires faster than the average pump action shotgun in Call of Duty, but its total range is noticeably lacking, and unlike most other slow-firing shotguns, the W1200's recoil mechanics can be slightly off-putting. That said, the W1200 provides better overall one-shot kill reliability than the M1014. The user will need to adjust to the W1200 having a bit less total range than expected, and having no very advantageous attachments to use. Those that get accustomed to the feel of the W1200 can be a devastatingly effective opponent in CQC.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Campaign[]

The W1200 was first confirmed to be in the game when it was seen in the original trailers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Like the M1911, although it is featured in-game, it is only usable in the "Museum" level. However, unlike the M1911, it cannot be found in the display case with the other guns; it is only found on the body of the snow camouflaged NPC in the first room, second from the right, although sometimes he will carry an M1014 instead. It is never even seen in any other single player level, although it is seen in the cutscene intro for S.S.D.D. in the hands of an FSB operative.

The W1200 has an extremely long range for a shotgun, and remains lethal at ranges far beyond those usually expected for a shotgun. For example, it is capable of killing everyone in the No Russian exhibit from the Contingency exhibit in the Museum.

The pickup icon is the same as the one in Call of Duty 4, and in the Cliffhanger E3 2009 gameplay video, the W1200 pickup icon was used as placeholder for the SPAS-12's one.

In the Polish PC version of the game, the weapon does appear in single player. It is seen in the hands of the Militia in the two Brazil missions (instead of the SPAS-12) and in the armory in The Gulag. It should be noted that there is a unique W1200 in Takedown, specifically the part when Meat starts shooting in the air and attracts the locals. The militiamen with W1200s have SPAS-12-like stock and animations, using the W1200 as a base. The W1200 in The Hornet's Nest and the armory are from the original Modern Warfare.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, W1200 features a darker colour scheme with a newer pump sound alongside a entirely different reload.

Call of Duty: Mobile[]

"Pump-action shotgun."
— Description

The W1200 returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the BY15.

Multiplayer[]

The BY15 has hipfire tight pellet spread and high pellet travel range, allowing it to one-hit kill enemies at very long range. However, such tight pellet spread requires players to be accurate in order to land all pellets on enemies and avoid hitmarkers. It also has high rate of fire for a pump-action shotgun.

Battle Royale[]

The BY15 can deal high damage to enemies, being able to take fights head on due to its tight pellet spread, which allows the gun to have more total damage at mid range. It has very fast rechamber speed, which accounts for its very high rate of fire.

A Mythic variant can be found in Airdrops, and comes pre-equipped with a suppressor, tube extension, laser sight, and grip tape.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • In singleplayer, the W1200 is drawn with the player holding the grip. However, in multiplayer, it is drawn with the player dropping it into his hand.
  • Gaz's quote when he first pulls out the W1200 in 'Crew Expendable' is a reference to Corporal Hick's line in the movie Aliens.
