The Fire Trap is a trap featured in the Extinction mode of Call of Duty: Ghosts. Fire Traps appear on all maps. It costs $750 ($1000 at the Cabin) to activate.

Description[]

When purchased, the Fire Trap ignites a line of fire that will ignite any Cryptid that enters. This line of fire usually covers a decently large area and is intended to cover a section of a map.

Fire Traps are extremely unpopular. Fire damage is constantly dealt to Cryptids in most playthroughs of Extinction, as Incendiary Ammo and Cryptid Slayer Ammo, two of the most popular ammo types, have incendiary effects that ignite Cryptids. The Fire Trap does little more than just igniting the Cryptids. In addition to having redundant anti-personnel effect, it will also deal damage to teammates that touch the fire, with even just the most minor of touches causing notable lingering damage. The only way to avoid the damage is to activate a Tank Upgrade (although the player will still flinch from the fire burning) or be a sufficiently upgraded Engineer.

As a result of its ineffectiveness and danger to teammates, Fire Traps are very rarely used outside of challenges demanding kills with traps, and even on said challenges, Electric Fences are much preferred both due to their different damage type, higher overall damage, reduced danger to teammates, improved ability to defend Sentry Guns, ability to arc to other Cryptids should the user of the trap have the Arcing Stun ability, and lower cost per unit.

Although the Fire Trap is by and large ineffective for standard use, its properties make the Fire Trap incredibly useful in Chaos Mode. Due to its ability to not only hit Cryptids, but light them ablaze - in addition to the much reduced presence of incendiary damage in Chaos Mode - the Fire Trap can prove extremely useful since it can be used to maintain the player's combo very easily. A Cryptid lit on fire will constantly refill the combo timer, making the Fire Trap very useful should a player need to take a temporary break from the action to collect items or packages. Unlike with the Electric Fence, which can kill the Cryptid too quickly and leave their subsequent egg drop in hard to reach areas, the Fire Trap never kills Cryptids instantly, and can usually only kill light Cryptids on its own, making it less likely for the player to get put in a disadvantage by a Cryptid dying in an inconvenient position.
