In the prior War Room forum it was closed due to "Action has been taken to reduce redundancy in categories.", however I feel the categories could still use more work to make them easier to navigate. In the prior forum I put forward some tree ideas for categories, I feel we should create a tree for all the Spaces, while Filespace is being looked at I feel many of the Mainspaces are being ignored. I also feel categories are seemingly just being used to group random things together, but don't contain a master group. Looking at the Call of Duty 4 page shows it to be somewhat of a mess. A far simpler tree could be as follows.

  • Games
    • Call of Duty 4
      • Single Player
        • Single Player Levels
        • Cut Single Player Levels
      • Multiplayer
        • Multiplayer Levels
        • Cut Multiplayer Levels
        • Multiplayer ranks
      • Perks
      • Killstreaks
      • Weapons
      • Images
      • Sound Files
      • Etc.

(Note: This is still somewhat beta, but is the closest to complete of a tree I can create.)

Discussion[]

This is how category trees should be done, in all honesty - really there is no alternative to this, so I would support this being noted down somewhere in a guideline or policy.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  20:47, September 11, 2012 (UTC)

Support-I agree with CoD4, and I also feel like a guideline or a policy should tell us on how categorization is branched. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg23:13, September 11, 2012 (UTC)

The more complete-y Category tree[]

  • Games
    • Call of Duty 4
      • Single Player
        • Single Player levels
        • Cut Single Player levels
        • Transcripts
      • Multiplayer
        • Multiplayer Maps
        • Cut Multiplayer Maps
        • Multiplayer Ranks
        • Killstreak Rewards
        • Gametypes
      • Weapons
        • Primary Weapons
        • Secondary Weapons
        • Single Player Weapons
        • Weapon Attachments
        • Weapon Camos
      • Equipment
        • Lethal Equipment
        • Tactical Equipment
      • Perks
        • Tier 1 perks
        • Tier 2 perks
        • Tier 3 perks
      • Characters
        • USMC Characters
        • SAS Characters
        • Spetsnaz Characters
        • OpFor Characters
        • Miscellaneous Characters
      • Vehicles
        • Tanks
        • Jeeps
        • Helicopters
        • Jets
      • Music
      • Images – (This will be linked to the image projects categorising efforts)
      • Achievements
      • Videos
        • Teaser Trailer Videos
        • Walkthrough Videos
        • Demonstration Videos

(Note, all these will start with thier games prefixes, so Call of Duty 4 Primary Weapons) Master Categories are to stay off the pages. Ergo an M4A1 would be only be categorised as Call of Duty 4 Primary Weapons, it would not need the CoD4 and Weapons category.

This is what I have written up. Certain games may need some alterations in obvious places. However it should be malleable enough to change.

Project[]

Due to the overhauling required, I am proposing this become a project to enable the transition to be far simpler and quicker.

14:14, September 22, 2012 (UTC)

As something that cannot be done in a single afternoon and requires a lot of effort to complete, I support this becoming a long term Project in my capacity as someone who turns Project into a proper noun. 19:54, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
Support-I agree with Verantha. Since this cannot be done in a single afternoon and will take awhile it would be best for this to be a long term project. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg19:57, September 22, 2012 (UTC)

Support - I definitely agree with Verantha/Argo here, this is better as a long-term project than something we can just throw around as a guideline and hope for the best.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  13:35, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Starting the project[]

As we have an ample amount of people willing to help we can start on the project as soon as possible. Awards will be worked on and admins can be easily contacted for the removing of redundant categories.

Dead[]

Is this forum dead/Has this project started? http://i.imgur.com/vm7BQ.png 02:33, December 21, 2012 (UTC)

It has started. However I'm bogged down in other work so I haven't been able to do this + everything else. The issue is everyone that said they would help has yet to start helping. 02:43, December 21, 2012 (UTC)
Alrighty. http://i.imgur.com/vm7BQ.png 01:52, December 22, 2012 (UTC)
This is something I have wondered about. Why do we need someone to say precisely when the project starts? I always thought these projects were more about getting users amped up to help instead of having them file into lines and wait to be told what to do. Why not just have people do what they can when they can? Joe Copp 02:33, January 7, 2013 (UTC)
Also, I was under the impression this was an ongoing project. You mean to say that this 4 month old forum has yet to yeild any realistic benefits beyond ideas? This should have been ongoing as I so long thought it was. Joe Copp 22:24, January 9, 2013 (UTC)
That's exactly what I'm stating. If you look at our categories they have yet to be reformatted into the way I showed up the page. I understand that Cpl. Bohater, Callofduty4 and myself have been putting in time, but 3 people can't run a whole project. Even the image maintenance project is still ongoing. 16:49, January 10, 2013 (UTC)
I would be working on it but I am don't know how to categorize C: --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  17:08, January 10, 2013 (UTC)
You just said "Per all of the people down here" in the last section when the hierarchy of categories was explained. Joe Copp 02:07, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - Project will be ongoing, but we don't need an open forum for it, especially after six bloody months. Joe Copp 00:02, March 2, 2013 (UTC)

Six months of no one doing anything >.> 01:36, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

Re-opening - I'm re-opening this forum as so far it's just me and Argo doing all the work, so I need a proper list of people that are going to help, not just a long list of "Per all".

11:45, April 21, 2013 (UTC)

So now that it is opened again do we plan on making some list and or assigning tasks of who is signed up and doing what? In any case I'm willing to categorize stuff, and would do any of it really, but still need to know how this will work exactly. When we get more people I'll think of some specific thing to focus on, if that's how it works. http://i.imgur.com/GhKJh.pngP90Deathmanhttp://i.imgur.com/uceaHlB.png20:49, April 22, 2013 (UTC)
Same as image project, just look around on pages for categories that need changing, adding or removing. 13:39, April 28, 2013 (UTC)
Then why do you need an open forum and a list of people "willing to help"? You can just start doing it and people who can help will do so. Joe Copp 02:20, June 3, 2013 (UTC)
Because we need to bring it to peoples attention, just like the image project. Amazingly not everything runs though the chat system. 11:28, June 3, 2013 (UTC)
Also if an issue arises they can bring it up here so everyone working on the project can know how that issue was dealt with. 11:29, June 3, 2013 (UTC)
Your aggressive assertion about chat is misplaced due to my recent inactivity on the wiki and moreso the chat. It also doesn't seem like there's much "bringing it to people's attention" other than a stagnant forum. Tying into that, I could see the need for a place to put solutions to problems like you mentioned if the project were to be active, which it unfortunately isn't (that's not to say there isn't work being done). Joe Copp 02:12, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment Comment — Can we be realistic for a second? How long is this forum going to sit here? Last time it was closed, it was reopened on the grounds that the project is "ongoing", yet if it is supposed to be unending, why let the forum take up space in the WR? Joe Copp 00:22, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Well, 'm pretty sure a majority of the stuff is categorized, but this is still ongoing, and judging, it doesn't seem like any more users are joining in. So, maybe it could be closed as an ongoing thing, off the radar again. http://i.imgur.com/GhKJh.pngP90Deathmanhttp://i.imgur.com/uceaHlB.png00:26, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - This forum has again been sitting inactive at the bottom of the WR for close to 2 months. Users involved with the project can still refer back for instructions, but in the future, if any changes need to be made to the project, I would recommend making a new forum.
