Some months ago a Twitter account for the Call of Duty Wiki was proposed. It didn't pass, but it is being re-proposed here.

http://twitter.com/#!/CoDWikiOfficial - A Twitter account has already been set up. Should we use it? We could post news, and facts which might not be picked up by sites like IGN. We could also post site updates. As with the wiki's YouTube channel, only a select few users will have access to the password and therefore the ability to tweet.

It can't hurt to have a Twitter account. We might even be able to draw in more traffic and users if we have one.

Discuss below please, thanks. --Callofduty4 19:18, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

What would it be used for, and who would have access? elmo's ujelly? ramblings 19:30, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

I mean, crats only, or regular users as well? elmo's ujelly? ramblings 19:32, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
Users would be co-opted in, similar to what we do now with the YouTube channel. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 19:41, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

Sure, it could draw in traffic, but it seems rather pointless- as I discussed in the last discussion involving Twitter all we'd do is rehash the information/tweets provided by official accounts, like @JD_2020 or @DavidVonderhaar. While I'm not against it, it's not something we necessarily need or don't need. I'm neutral until someone convinces me otherwise. --ukimies {talk | irc | administration} 20:33, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

A lot of the news on Twitter is repeated, so I don't think it's a valid point that all we'd be doing is retweeting information. It could be potentially a useful tool for game and site news, and gets our name out there at the same time. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 20:58, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

Per Ukimies. The only use I can think of for a Twitter account is for news, and our news blogs already handle that. Sgt. S.S. 20:35, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

Per Ukimies. Sure, we could put it up that they announced MW3 when they do, but that would be a one time thing. Most (of the few things) that I see worth of putting up would be releases. And that happens about 10 times a year. It doesn't seem like such a great idea. The only 'scheduled' thing I could see us putting up would be Smuff's Weekly Update thing. In all, I honestly don't think its a good idea, it is very pointless in my eyes. Wehrmacht emblem iron crossSp3cSchnellerWehrmacht emblem iron cross 00:21, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

It's not just news... We would not strive to be the New York Times of Twitter, being the first to report on a breaking story. Our affiliate, DigitalWarfare 24/7, uses their Twitter account to announce site-related updates and YouTube channel uploads, communicate with developers and other sites, answer questions from site visitors, and only in addition to that provides, recent news. A Twitter account also increases site awareness, which, as Modern Warfare 3 seemingly approaches its reveal, would be the best thing for us considering our readership and user activity is starting to decline to pre-Black Ops numbers. That is a good point Bovell. Conquerer of all Zombies Talk 01:16, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Well it could coincide with our YouTube channel, something like "Check out <Insert YouTube vid>" when we want to showcase a video or something along those lines. Twitter isn't just for news after all. Smuff[citation provided] 00:32, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

An important use of the Twitter account would be to get our name out there. If one major CoD Community retweeted one of our posts, we could see a traffic increase. Twitter would make a good medium for us to spread word of ourselves across the internet, as well as to provide news, site updates, YT channel updates, etc. --Callofduty4 01:33, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Per CoD4. It's a good way to spread news about us across the web, and maybe get a little attention from some developers. Conquerer of all Zombies Talk 01:43, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

I'm still wondering who would use it. I doubt many people here use twitter. US Army OF-6Commissar NCD Эй, что рифмы!! 09:07, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Again, users would be co-opted in as they are currently with the YouTube channel. You don't have to use Twitter actively to figure out how it works. It's more simple than running a YouTube channel or a Facebook fan page, the latter of which we don't even know who coordinates. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 13:25, February 27, 2011 (UTC)
In fact, a Twitter account would be of more use to us than anything on Facebook. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 13:29, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

I don't see why we don't have a twitter account. I support this per all of the above. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC

The others raise some good points; with Twitter's texing updates, it would allow for updates on the go to people that are too lazy to look it up otherwise. Shotrocket6 Talk 11:41, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

And just pointing out... did anyone else notice that Robert Bowling is following the Twitter page? Shotrocket6 Talk 11:42, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
Are you sure? There's only 6 followers; none of which are Robert Bowling. --ukimies {talk | irc | administration} 19:15, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

We're following them. --Callofduty4 21:07, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
I don't know how the freakin website works. Shotrocket6 Talk 03:02, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

By the way guys, could I by any chance have the password of the twitter account? Seeing as I make the most news posts, I could also then post them to the twitter. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC

We have to approve it first before we start giving out access. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 22:42, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think this is necessary. The news posts are sufficient, and allow everyone in the community to contribute, not just those with the Twitter access. I agree with Ukimies, it would just be rehashing major news' Twitter posts. I mean, we could have both the news posts and the Twitter, but I would find that rather redundant... --Ryemccrory 05:02, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

I've already explained that a website Twitter account is not limited to game news... please see what I wrote earlier. Additionally, we are already being repetitive with our news blog posts on-wiki, which are delivered with greater delay, and to a much smaller number of viewers than are possible on Twitter. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 11:48, March 2, 2011 (UTC)
You make several excellent points. I am especially fond of the idea of more traffic. Would the Twitter account replace our news articles or supplement them? Also, will we Tweet about our own news? --C0N71NG3NCY 23:05, March 3, 2011 (UTC)
Supplement. Wiki news will also be tweeted. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 02:50, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting supportChange to Support - Bovell's reasoning as well as others' have convinced me that this is a good idea - we'd benefit from it by way of spreading the word about us - helping the wiki, so I'm all for it. --ukimies {talk | irc | administration} 19:45, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Agreed. --C0N71NG3NCY 12:30, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Per what I said above. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC

Pictogram voting support Support — Twitter could bring way more possible traffic. Smuff[citation provided] 21:20, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Could attract more traffic, and maybe some dev attention. We could put links the Youtube videos (speaking of that, someone needs to put together the montage) and get our Youtube channel more traffic too. All in all, a good idea. Conquerer of all Zombies Talk 04:53, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Why not. It might bring in traffic and I don't know how it can hurt having one. Nikolai Cannot Die 05:27, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — will draw in traffic, and we could get creative dlc ideas to the companies easier. D o c t o r · R i c h t o f f e eP r o b l e m ? Troll HD 15:45, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, we already have a Facebook account, why not a twitter? For the Twitter fans, it would be nice. Even though i don't have one...hehehe. João Lima 19:47, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting wait Pending — It could attract traffic, but would it be regularly updated? Also: I'd like a link to this Facebook page, if that would be possible, thanks. --Good editing! Darthkenobi0(talk) 04:20, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

It's Twitter, of course it would. Give some of the admins the password and it'll be used non-stop probably. Smuff[citation provided] 07:40, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
Which Facebook page though? The one I created, or the one an unknown person made? Which one? Conquerer of all Zombies Talk 04:45, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — We have a facebook page, so why not twitter? Also a good way of not only advertising the wiki, but could also support the youtube channel. TheDocRichtofen (Talk) 21:05, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - begin twittering. -- <choose><option>azuris_</option><option>22px-1888721.png Azuristalk</option> 23:13, March 12, 2011 (UTC)
