Reading up on CoaZ's userpage, I noticed that we have a Facebook page for the wiki. Now, contrary to the YouTube channel, I think this is a resource we should be using. All we would really need to do is as follows:

  1. Give control of the page to some or all of the people on the news team
  2. Advertise it around a little bit to get some more likes (currently at 179, which is a good starting point)
  3. Post links to our blogs here whenever there is CoD news or a big event happening (like a community MP get-together)

As long as we keep it updated, the likes will come, and it could potentially become a drawing point for greater readership, especially when you consider how many people use Facebook. We already have the Twitter account running, so why not complete the social media circle when it wouldn't require that much extra effort? Joe Copp 16:02, March 6, 2014 (UTC)

Discussion[]

I think I brought this up before (outside the War Room) and I believe the biggest issue was: No one remembers/knows the Facebook password.

But that's not how these pages work. They're created and controlled by a number of admins through their own personal account, so the page itself isn't a separate account, but rather a facet of the account of the creator. All the creator would need to do is pass adminship to the personal accounts of those on the news team for them to be able to post as that page. Joe Copp 19:33, March 7, 2014 (UTC)
Who's the creator? 20:22, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
CoaZ is. Joe Copp 21:10, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
That page was more of a test run I made when we were debating if we were going to expand to social media or not. I don't exactly use it too often. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 07:39, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Um, this is our official page, not the one you linked above. I'll give a few people content creator rights, depending on who is interested. User:Sactage/s.js 21:15, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

Broken link! Joe Copp 21:16, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
I have no idea what you're talking about :p User:Sactage/s.js 21:18, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, so my question is: Why is the name of the page all one word? It's unnecessarily difficult to read when realistically we could easily have it as four. I feel like that makes it harder to find for potential followers of the page, because people looking for it would type "call of duty" in the search bar before typing "callofduty". Joe Copp 21:25, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
I assume it was to mirror the name of our Twitter account. I can request the page be named something different, but only once. User:Sactage/s.js 21:29, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
I think it's more important that we label it "Call of Duty Wiki" instead of having the unnecessary link to the Twitter account. The main factor bringing these social media pages is their relation to the wiki, not eachother. Joe Copp 22:51, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

Well anyway, since we all now know about the real wiki Facebook page, the question is who we should give access to. I'm thinking the 2 or 3 most active people on the news team so they can just post the relevant stuff. Joe Copp 20:02, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

I'd personally recommend N7 and Damac. They do a great job already on Twitter, so should be able to run Facebook as well. I'd ask for the rights myself. But I hardly use social media. 21:15, March 9, 2014 (UTC)
I'm alright with this. Joe Copp 14:24, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
I actually messaged the page about this (though the person, who I'm assuming was Sactage, just told me to come back here to discuss it). I'd be interested in taking the position as well. Whether or not it's alongside N7 and Damac as I do use Facebook frequently. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  15:03, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
I mean, I also use Facebook every day, but that doesn't mean I find myself qualified for this position. Seeing as you're not part of the news team, I'm not sure it would be the right job for you. I'm confident N7 and Damac can handle this if they choose to. Joe Copp 15:04, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
But I am familiar with the layout of these pages (I made my own page to familiarize myself with it a while back). And even if I'm not on the news team, I'm only trying to integrate myself further with the Wiki and help it out more (having recently acquired Rollback rights and become apart of the Blog Patrol). However, I know at the end of the day that the decision falls down to the majority, so let's see what the others will say. Even with this though, I do realize that N7 and Damac are good at what they do on Twitter and are a good choice for the job. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  15:51, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
Your familiarity with the Facebook layout is pretty irrelevant because there's almost nothing to learn. The usage is simple and streamlined. And while yes, you have been doing well with rollback and the like, I still think this is better suited to someone who has been researching and publishing news stories for the wiki for a long time (Damac and N7). That kind of journalistic experience is what would be best for the Facebook page in order to draw greater readership. Joe Copp 16:35, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Actually, I disagree with this. If a user wishes to use the page, I believe if the user is trusted they should be given the rights. I mean, I'm on the news team, but I very rarely post much news as I rely on other users to tell me news that they can't post. I believe if Kylet would like these rights we should grant them. I recommended Damac and N7 as I know they've been running the Twitter account, but aside from that, I think any user that is trusted has the qualifications to run the site, and we shouldn't start disallowing users based on status quo.

How about we let N7 and Damac (if he wants) run it for a little while, and then see how it looks for adding him onto that list? Joe Copp 20:08, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
What's wrong with allowing him to join now? If he's showing the initiative to ask then I see no reason to hold him back. 22:29, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
Also, having three people run the page is more than likely better than having only two people run it and I've been wanting to get a position on the News Team for some time now. I'm up for the job if I can have it is all I'm saying here. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  01:44, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

hi, i was doing quite a bit of facebook stuff but then i lost the password and couldn't find someone who did. I don't mind doing it again. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 19:18, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

I've got no problem helping run the Facebook page. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 00:41, March 11, 2014 (UTC)

Seeing as it's still fairly inactive, I've reconsidered my stance on Kylet, and am now in favor of giving him access to the page so long as he uses it. If we're in agreement now, we can give him the password and start wrapping this up.

In addition, I'd like to again request that we change the page name to "Call of Duty Wiki" from "CoDWikiOfficial" to make it easier to find. Joe Copp 01:27, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for reconsidering Joe. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  02:06, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

If you all are alright with it, I'll close this and implement the changes. Joe Copp 18:23, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

All people who are going to run the Facebook page must email me a link to their Facebook profile so I can friend them and give them rights on the page. If you already have me as a Facebook friend, please send me a message about it. User:Sactage/s.js 18:47, April 8, 2014 (UTC)
