Hey everyone. I'm Brandon from Fandom's Community team. You may have seen our blog post last week about Wiki Modernization, and how we are testing the use of videos to help create a better user and advertising experience on Fandom. We'd like your help in doing that.

We'd like to run tests around featured video placement and modernized article styles on Call of Duty Wiki so we can gather data and user feedback. This will help us create the best product possible and provide a much more modernized and overall better user experience. Callofduty4 and Crazy sam10, who I talked to in the Community Council, said they were open to this but they suggested I talk to you all as well.

Here is how you can help us with that test:

  • We would like your permission to run video tests on up to 10 article pages, using placement options like the one on Harry Potter Wiki: List of spells, Newt Scamander, Gellert Grindelwald, and Hogwarts Houses.
  • We would like your permission to run tests around changed article styles, like the navigation menu, across the whole wiki.
  • Tests will change throughout the process and adjust as we learn more.
  • Give us feedback any time in the process!

Does anyone have any objections to running these tests here? Let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to answer them. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:32, March 10, 2017 (UTC)

Discussion[]

As stated yesterday. I have no initial qualms in testing the feature out, as it should give us time to iron out any issues we see with it.

Please could we get some more info about the changed article styles or the new navigation?  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  19:18, March 11, 2017 (UTC)

  • We're going to talk about that on Community Central on Thursday. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 21:36, March 11, 2017 (UTC)

Just as a fair warning; initially only Cod4 and myself were approached about testing this new feature and we both pushed for a WR discussion. If we don't hear any input soon there's a fair chance the testing will go though. So if anyone has anything they want to say I would suggest they do it as soon as they can.

I don't see any issues with this. At least this lets us figure out the kinks and helps iron out the details rather than just having something thrust upon us like Discussions. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 16:15, March 13, 2017 (UTC)

Basically per above, I don't have anything against this, so long as such tests will only affect a limited number of articles. Kilo 141 menu icon MW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 19:30, March 13, 2017 (UTC)

Already see one major issue. Bandwidth usage. Would it be possible to get it set to not autoplay or have an option to have it disabled in the opinions? If yes on either, All good with testing. Twig (Talk) 22:26, March 13, 2017 (UTC)

I took a look at a few of the example pages, all of them loaded paused/non-playing by default. 23:18, March 13, 2017 (UTC)
Right now they are not autoplay, but we will be testing that and will likely move ahead with autoplay in the final product. But we aim to enable autoplay only for visitors who are connected to wi-fi to avoid heavier load issues. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 03:14, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

This is probably a minor thing, but having a link straight to the article in the revision history, like this, helps a lot with convenience. Right now, it has been replaced with a link to the pages categories (example), which causes a hassle if I want to check the unchanged version before reverting edits. Capt. Closed - Testing was done.
