"3 Frag grenades"
— Perk description

Frag x3 is a Tier 1 perk in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that gives a player three frag grenades upon spawning rather than the regular one. However, if playing in Old School mode it is possible to get up to four. It is unlocked for use at level 41.

OverviewEdit

Call of Duty: Modern WarfareEdit

This perk is a commonly used first-tier perk due to the high utility of Fragmentation Grenades in Call of Duty 4. They are notably potent on smaller and/or linear maps, such as Showdown or Wet Work, due to the predictability of enemy paths. Common players simply spam their grenades without calculation when they either see an enemy at a distance or right when they spawn, where as professionals aim their grenades and use them sparingly.

Call of Duty: World at WarEdit

Main article: Primary Grenades x2

This perk is replaced by Primary Grenades x2 which, as the name implies, gives fewer grenades for balancing purposes. Primary Grenades x2 actually disables the user, as with other explosive Tier 1 Perks the user will have a total of 3 explosives, instead of only two. Arguably the versatility and power of grenades make up for the loss of one explosive, but the total firepower available is reduced.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Edit

Main article: Scavenger (perk)
Ability: "Full resupply from dead enemies."
Pro Ability: "Extra magazines"
— Description

Scavenger acts as a replacement for Frag x3. Due to the maximum of possessing only a single grenade at a time, the players' ability to grenade mortar from spawn to spawn is notably reduced. However, Scavenger increases their potential amount of grenades per life. The limitation of grenades virtually eliminates the tactic of grenade mortaring, but does allow for other explosive-related tactics such as creating a practically unlimited set of claymores.

Call of Duty: Black OpsEdit

Main article: Scavenger (perk)
Ability: "Resupply from dead bodies. Does not resupply launchers or equipment."
Pro Ability: "Doubles your starting ammo with extra magazines, replenishes tactical grenades."
— Description

Scavenger replenishes your ammunition and lethal grenades when you walk over blue scavenger bags that are dropped by dead players. This won't resupply launchers or equipment. Scavenger is very useful with weapons that run out of ammo quickly. When upgraded to pro, it doubles your starting ammo with extra magazines. This also replenishes your tactical grenades.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Edit

Scavenger again returns in this game, but is now significantly balanced as compared to the previous titles. It does not replenish explosives anymore, limiting players to however many munitions they selected, whether it is from lethal grenades, attachments like the grenade launcher or secondary weapons which are launchables. However, it is still possible to acquire grenade launcher rounds if one has a certain grenade launcher and moves over a corpse that happens to have said attachment.
