Hardcore Search and Destroy

From the Call of Duty Wiki

Hardcore Search and Destroy is a game mode in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 where Hardcore and Search and Destroy rules apply. It is one of the hardest game modes to master because you don't respawn, you take more damage and you have no HUD. This Game mode can often be a big target for teamkillers, as when a player dies, they do not respawn until the next round (Like Hardcore Team Deathmatch, friendly fire is on). The most malicious teamkillers will even try and kill everyone on their team at the start of each round by pulling out an RPG and firing it into the ground, killing himself and most (if not, all) members of his team. However, a player will be booted after three team kills in Call of Duty: World at War.

The game mode is somewhat modified in Modern Warfare 2, labeled "Hardcore Ricochet S&D". It is still considered Hardcore Search & Destroy, except with ricochet rules. There is no teamkilling, but friendly fire results in whatever damage the teammate received to be inflicted on the player instead, often times killing them with the "Friendly Fire will not be Tolerated." Hardcore Ricochet is also a variant in Headquarters.

[edit] Tips

Containing elements from both Hardcore and Search and Destroy, this game mode demands a much different play style than most other modes.

  • Hardcore: Every player having less health (reduced to 30 from its usual 100) means every firearm will kill in one hit at close range (even one shotgun pellet). This property of Hardcore promotes the use of weapons that focus more on rate of fire than damage per round. In addition, the perk Double Tap becomes more helpful with dispatching enemies than the perk Stopping Power. For example, weapons used commonly with Double Tap are ones that reach 1200rpm (Mini-Uzi, P90, and the M249 SAW). However, at increased ranges, many weapons require two hits to kill. These are the weapons that require two hits to kill at their secondary ranges: Pistols (excluding Desert Eagle), Shotguns (3 pellets), SMGs, M4 Carbine, G36C, and the suppressed/red dot AK-47. Experienced players will take this into account when deciding on which weapon to bring into the match. Also, certain explosives (C4, Claymores, RPGs, and Grenades) will kill players at all but the tip of their blast radius, which will leave the player with almost no health. Another important property of Hardcore is the limited HUD. The Hardcore HUD consists of only the damage indicator, kill spam, Bomb Squad perk, objectives, the start menu, and the back menu. Experienced players often use the back/start menus to check the enemy count and to check positions of friendlies, respectively.
  • Search and Destroy: Like Search and Destroy, players only get one life per round. This, coupled with the fragility of Hardcore, gives just cause for extra prudence. As a result, the pace and noise are much lower than any other game mode. This decrease in pace attracts "campers"—increasing the demand for UAVs. The deadliness of UAVs in Hardcore S&D causes many players to implement the UAV Jammer perk. The other perk contemplation made by veterans is Dead Silence. Not only is this perk used to conceal the player's movements, but it also allows the player to listen for enemy movement without interference.

[edit] Warnings

Watch out for teamkillers, they take everyone down, including themselves.

[edit] Glitches

  • A glitch that can occur is when one is placing the bomb, and a stun grenade goes off nearby, the player will have placed the bomb and yet still be "placing it". Though they are able to walk about, they are unable to use their weapons.
  • If you plant the bomb at the right time (it takes 5 seconds to plant), i.e exactly 5 seconds left, the bomb goes off killing the player, but 'bomb defused' is still announced. The defusers team wins the round, but both teams seem to get a point.
