Helicopter
From the Call of Duty Wiki
Helicopters are flying machines that unlike airplanes (excluding VTOL and V/STOL designs such as the AV-8 Harrier and Yak-38), do not have to be moving forward in order to remain airborne. A standard Helicopter, such as the Bell 206, consists of a fuselage with a large muti-blade rotor, consisting of anywhere from two to six blades and a long tail with a smaller rotor to provide stabilization. However, there are also coaxial rotor aircraft that consist of two main rotors stacked on top of each other. These designs do not require a stabilizing tail rotor.

[edit] In Call Of Duty 4
Helicopters are only seen in Call of Duty 4 at time of writing. They range from attack helicopters like the Mi-24 to transport helicopters such as the UH-60 Black Hawk. In Single player, the character must often avoid or shoot them down, occasionally riding inside of one.
[edit] In Multiplayer
In Multiplayer, a helicopter can be summoned to aid your team when a 7-kill-streak (Killing 7 enemies without dying) has been achieved. Once summoned, the Helicopter will fly around the map in a random pattern firing on any enemies it can with its heavy machine guns. This is very useful for racking up additional kills, and for distracting the opposing team. Also, forcing the enemy to hide can be useful close to the end of a game, as one team can move freely, while the other is forced to seek shelter, and thus cannot flank or attack.
Air support doesn't stack, so if you get an air strike, use it before attempting to get a chopper, as it is removed upon getting the next one up, however, lower-tier air support doesn't replace higher-tier, Choppers are not overwritten by UAV etc.
The Helicopter will leave after 2 minutes on the battlefield, but it can leave earlier if it is shot down. Shooting down a helicopter is no easy task, though, and the only weapons that are relatively effective against it are the RPG, Grenade Launcher, and any Light Machine Gun. And even a hit from an RPG alone will not bring down a Helicopter, but it will severely damage it. 1 RPG hit takes 90% of the helicopter's health.
Also, it is a little known fact that a machine gun Turret, such as the ones on the balconies in Downpour, can be used to take Helicopters down in less time than even Rpgs(assuming a single person fires twice) Issues with this strategy include: Exposure to the helicopters fire, exposure to the enemy, and the fact that the helicopter only has a limited time within the firing arc of the gun before it moves on and is no longer visible.
When attacking, a helicopter will assess these four factors:
- How far away the player is from the helicopter?(helicopter attacks closer targets first)
- Has the player attacked the helicopter before?
- What weapon is the player using?(The helicopter is more likely to pass someone who is wielding a submachine gun, and it is more likely to attack a player who has a LMG or a rocket launcher)
- How well is the player doing in the game?(It aims towards the players who are doing well more often)
Helicopters can also be aided by UAV and track down players on the map based on their location from firing unsilenced weapons or being detected by UAV.
Helicopters also fire missiles and rockets in multiplayer, though it is extremely rare to be killed by these missiles, it is possible. In fact, you can be Team Killed by your Helicopter, or your teammates Helicopter if it hit you with it's missile.
The SAS or USMC helicopter in Multiplayer is the AH-1 SuperCobra, and the OpFor and Spetsnaz is the Mi-24.
An effective tactic (although it will not always work), is to go prone. Most of the time, a Helicopter will not see you while prone near a building.
[edit] Data
Duration: Travels around the map once, loops to where it started, and leaves. Lasts at least one minute. No exact time can be set as each map has different helicopter paths and evasive maneuvers speeds it up.[1]
Health: 1100
Effects:
- Takes 30% Bullet damage until having lost 550 health, then takes full damage.
- Targets players with RPG-7 or LMGs and Assault rifles first over smaller weapons.
- After having lost 550 health, will use evasive maneuvers.
- Will attack and move faster during evasive maneuvers.
