The Hunter Killer Drone is a scorestreak in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Mobile and in Call of Duty Online as a killstreak.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

The Hunter Killer Drone is a Scorestreak reward featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops II that requires a scorestreak of 525. The player throws the drone, and then it pursues and kills the nearest enemy player or destroys the nearest enemy scorestreak.

The Swarm Scorestreak, which requires 1900 points, calls in a large number of Hunter Killer drones; however, these spawn in the air, rather than needing to be thrown.

Overview[]

When thrown, the announcers for both teams will announce the Hunter Killer drone's presence, and an icon of the Hunter Killer Drone will appear on radar with its live position and direction being tracked on radar until it is destroyed. The Hunter Killer drone explodes on contact with any surface except destructible glass, which it can break through without triggering detonation. Once destroyed, the Hunter Killer drone's icon on radar will be deleted.

When the Hunter Killer drone targets a player, that player will hear a distinct series of beeps indicating that the Hunter Killer drone has targeted them. Depending on the Hunter Killer drone's current position, this gives the player some warning to get to cover. However, if thrown more like a grenade by its user at a closer distance, the Hunter Killer drone tends to target and home in on a target before the series of beeps can finish. Should the Hunter Killer drone lose sight of its target before it attacks, the Hunter Killer drone will attempt to target something else. Once the Hunter Killer drone picks its target, it will then home in on its target, fully committing to targeting that player. The target still has a period of time in some instances where they can still get to cover, and if successful, the Hunter Killer drone will harmlessly slam into a wall.

Once thrown, the Hunter Killer drone will attempt to acquire a human target to home in on. If the Hunter Killer drone cannot find a human target in sufficient time and a destructible scorestreak is present in the airspace, the Hunter Killer drone will then target the scorestreak. If targeting UAVs, Counter-UAVs, or Lodestars, it normally takes a long time for it to physically reach said scorestreaks.

The Hunter Killer drone does severe enough damage to human targets that Flak Jacket will consistently fail to protect the player from getting killed by the Hunter Killer drone, even with full health. Blind Eye is the best counter to the Hunter Killer drone, as the player will not be targeted at all by Hunter Killer drones as a result of having the perk equipped. However, the player can still get killed by Hunter Killer drones if nearby teammates get targeted by them. Combining Blind Eye and Flak Jacket should protect a player both from targeted Hunter Killer drones and

Hunter Killer Drones can target all scorestreaks except for other Hunter Killer Drones and non targetable ones (E.M.P.s, Hellstorm Missiles and Orbital VSATs). Flares from certain scorestreaks will cause it to miss the target or even cause it to crash into the ground below. If it cannot find a target, it will continue flying above the map for a duration until it explodes.

There are only niche ways to destroy a Hunter Killer drone without it exploding. EMP effects, be it from an EMP Grenade or EMP Systems will destroy a Hunter Killer drone. A player that is specifically targeted by a Hunter Killer drone and has a drone homing in on them can deploy a Trophy System and it will destroy the Hunter Killer drone once it gets close enough. These methods of destruction will ensure that no explosion occurs. Common anti-air systems like lock-on launchers and the Black Hat will not be able to target the Hunter Killer drone.

The Hunter Killer drone gives the player 25 points per kill and the appropriate number of points if it destroys a Scorestreak equal to what the player would get using a rocket or Black Hat. It reuses the crosshairs of the Ballistic Knife.

If a player destroys a Hunter Killer Drone, they will be rewarded with the Rejected Medal.
