Hunters are a type of Cryptid that appears in the Call of Duty: Ghosts mode Extinction and in the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, on the map The Beast From Beyond.

Appearance[]

Similar to Scouts, Hunters are average in physical size with silver tinted skin and a red aura. Like Rhinos, their heads are lined with armor plating that is significantly stronger than Scouts. Hunters will charge players on two legs, a trait not shared with any other Cryptid lifeform excluding the Leper and the Phantom, making them easy to distinguish in combat.

Overview[]

Hunters serve all of the same roles as Scouts, in that they are Cryptids that will attack the player directly, but are also capable of targeting objectives like the Laser Drill or Generator, as well as friendly Sentry Guns. Hunters also damage objectives far more quickly, dealing damage to the Drill and Generator much more rapidly than a Scout, and the Hunter requires much less time to destroy a Sentry Gun. Hunters also deal much more damage per hit to the player than a Scout does, and they are somewhat faster. They are better than Scouts in almost every way.

Compared to Scouts, Hunters have significantly more health to the point where killing a Hunter instantly is usually only possible through more specific means, as most normal weapons fail to kill a Hunter in a single shot. Although regular weaponry commonly fails to kill them in a single shot, many of the more specialized items tend to kill a Hunter immediately, such as a Tesla Trap, explosive Venom-X variants, the I.M.S., the NX-1 Disruptor, and Pipe Bombs can all easily kill a Hunter in one hit. It is possible to kill a Hunter in one shot using a weapon with extremely high per-shot power, but a significant number of damage-enhancing effects are necessary to pull this off, and it's oftentimes only a realistic possibility in Solo play, where the health of enemies is generally lower.

Like Scouts, Hunters also have plated armor on the front of their heads, and they have a weak point between these two plates of armor. Killing a Hunter nets a base kill reward of $200.

In later rounds on maps, Hunters generally become much more commonplace, and on some maps, become more common than Scouts. On the last parts of Point of Contact, Hunters will replace Scouts entirely, but on subsequent maps, Scouts are never fully phased out. On most maps, Hunters are rarely seen in the early stages of a match, but on Hardcore difficulty, Hunters tend to arrive much more quickly.

Hunters are capable of being summoned in groups by Mammoths and Ancestors out of the ground. Mammoths can summon up to three Hunters at once, while Ancestors summon two at a time. Mammoths will summon Hunters with every heavy arm smash to the ground that kicks up dirt, so the spawning of Hunters becomes much more common should the Mammoth be within striking distance of a player. The Mammoth spawning Hunters makes engaging a Mammoth very dangerous, since the Mammoth itself is an aggressive and powerful enemy, but now it's accompanied by a supplementary threat. Hunters can also be hatched from eggs laid by the Breeder, although these eggs can be destroyed before they hatch. Hunters are also held in some of the containers in the first area of Nightfall, with one Hunter always being in the container right in front of the catwalk which breaks out as soon as a player enters the vicinity of the container.

Hunters are a decent target for a Hypno Knife, although not the most optimal. For those who do not have the necessary upgrade to use a Hypno Knife on a Rhino, the Hunter is the best target for a Hypno Knife on Point of Contact. On subsequent maps, the Phantom is a far better target for a Hypno Knife for those who cannot use it on a Rhino. The Hunter as an ally sports solid overall combat characteristics that allows it to serve as an effective ally, although it will succumb to injury much faster than a Phantom or Rhino would.

In Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, a Hunter appears on the "Cryptid Attack" arcade game found within the Astrocade and Afterlife Arcade in Zombies in Spaceland, where the player must throw a total of six balls at the six teeth of a Hunter.
