The CheyTac Intervention is a bolt-action sniper rifle featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Online, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Campaign[]

In the campaign, it is only found in the following missions: "Wolverines" on the rooftops with the supply drop, "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday" with Thermal Scope attachment and "Just Like Old Times" as a starting weapon with Silencer attachment.

In the intro cutscene of "Just Like Old Times", the screen lists the weapon as a "CheyTac Intervention bolt-action anti-materiel rifle".

Special Ops[]

The Intervention is a starting weapon in "Hidden" and "Snatch & Grab". It is also an alternate weapon in "Body Count", "Homeland Security", "Armor Piercing" and "Wetwork". It is a good weapon to counter Juggernauts with should the player lack the Barrett, but it requires six shots to kill these behemoths whereas other enemies will fall with one round.

Multiplayer[]

The Intervention is available at level 4, when Create-A-Class is unlocked. Like with all other sniper rifles, the user wears a Ghillie Suit when using a class that comes with a sniper rifle equipped.

The Intervention is a high damage sniper rifle. The Intervention does seventy damage per bullet at any range. The Intervention's bullets deal fifty percent extra damage when the bullet hits the head, neck, and upper torso, dealing 105 damage to said areas and securing a one shot kill. The Intervention's bullets do ten percent extra damage to the lower torso, dealing 77 damage. The Intervention by default has a decent one shot kill area. The Intervention has high penetration power, allowing the Intervention to retain most of its damage through walls. One shot kills can be attained through walls, but the user will commonly need Stopping Power and/or FMJ in order to reliably do this.

The Intervention's damage increases when using Stopping Power to 98 damage per bullet at any range. The Intervention's bullets do 147 damage to the head, neck, and upper torso, not only securing a one shot kill, but providing a decent margin for error when shooting through walls. Most significantly, the Intervention's bullets will do 107 damage to the lower torso, getting one shot kills there that the WA2000 and M14 EBR cannot ever get one shot kills to. Stopping Power increases the user's margin for error in all situations, although some may find it to be a perk they can go without.

The Intervention's main weakness as a sniper rifle is its rate of fire. It is the only bolt-action sniper rifle in multiplayer, and it fires slowly as a result. The Intervention fires at 65 RPM. The user must wait 915 milliseconds before they can fire another shot. This fire rate is slow enough that a properly executed Reload Cancel could potentially increase rate of fire.

The Intervention's accuracy is lacking for a sniper rifle. The scope is clean and easy to use, and the recoil is mostly inconsequential. Although it kicks heavily and has a terrible 500 centerspeed, the very slow fire rate makes recoil a non-factor for the most part. More importantly, the Intervention has fifty percent more idle sway than all other sniper rifles.

The Intervention's handling characteristics are good for a sniper rifle, although sniper rifles in general have inconsistent handling characteristics. The Intervention allows users to move at 100% of the base movement speed, but strafe at just forty percent of the base movement speed. The Intervention allows users to aim down the sights in a slow 400 milliseconds, and the hip-fire accuracy is awful. The Intervention's switch speeds are some of the best when using a handgun, but just average when using a heavier secondary. The Intervention's reload speeds are among the best for a sniper rifle. The Intervention's reload animation is 2.27 seconds long, or 3.87 seconds long on an empty magazine. In either case, the user can perform a reload cancel at 1.8 seconds. Not only is the reload cancel the fastest among sniper rifles, but the reload animation is also very fast for those who do not reload cancel. Overall, the Intervention is a very slick handling sniper rifle.

The Intervention has the smallest magazine capacity of all sniper rifles, holding just five rounds per magazine. Considering the Intervention's power and slow firing nature, five rounds last a lot longer than one might expect. The Intervention is like the WA2000 in that the user gets four total magazines instead of three, giving the user a starting ammo loadout of twenty rounds. This is the smallest starting ammo loadout in its class, but some will find this to be more than sufficient for such a slow-firing, powerful weapon that doesn't get used much at close range.

The Intervention has the standard assortment of sniper rifle attachments available.

The Silencer makes the gun quieter when firing and prevents the Intervention from revealing the user on radar when firing, but at a severe cost. The Intervention's damage per bullet decreases from 70 to 50 by default. This completely removes the ability to get a one shot kill to the lower torso, and when not using Stopping Power, the Intervention cannot get any one shot kills. Even when using Stopping Power, one shot kills through walls also become very difficult to obtain as an Intervention with a Silencer can only do up to 105 damage at most, leaving with little room for error when shooting through walls. Other sniper rifles make much better use of the Silencer than the Intervention, and this attachment should never be used on this weapon.

The Heartbeat Sensor is a safe attachment pick that provides portable radar on the side of the weapon, indicating nearby teammates and enemies. It can be useful to monitor nearby enemy movements.

The ACOG Scope gives a low-zoom scope that retains peripheral vision. The Intervention's idle sway cannot be steadied by holding breath, but the Intervention sways at half the speed to make up for this. There's not much advantage to using the ACOG Scope due to the inability to steady the idle sway.

The Thermal Scope provides a thermal overlay of the battlefield, illuminating enemies white-hot, aiding in target acquisition. Unlike on other weapon classes where the Thermal Scope adds several severe disadvantages that often make it not worth using, there is very little disadvantage to using the Thermal Scope on a sniper rifle as it doesn't harm accuracy in any way, and considering how Cold-Blooded is a lesser-used perk 2 choice, a lot of enemies will be visually indicated for the user. It is a great attachment choice for the Intervention.

FMJ increases penetration power, improving the Intervention's performance through walls. This is best used in conjunction with Stopping Power, as a Stopping Power shot to the head, neck, and upper torso deals a lot of damage as-is, and FMJ allows for one shot kills to be more consistently obtained through walls. The attachment also makes one-shot kills when shooting through walls a more realistic a possibility for those not using Stopping Power. The attachment has no downside and has some very real upside.

Extended Mags doubles the Intervention's magazine capacity to ten rounds, and spreads the ammo across just two magazines instead of four. The attachment is purely beneficial and highly reduces the amount of reloading the user will be doing, However, considering the slow fire rate and quick reloads, the Intervention benefits the least from using this attachment. Still, it never hurts to use it for those that don't feel strongly for other attachments.

Overall, the Intervention is defined by its damage and slick handling. It provides the maximum one-shot kill area a sniper rifle can offer in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, and it handles very cleanly for those using quick drop/raise secondary weapons. However, the Intervention struggles in all other categories. It cannot deliver follow-up shots in a timely manner thanks to the poor fire rate, the Intervention has a harder time landing single shots due to its inferior idle sway mechanics, and not a lot of ammo is provided. Statistically speaking, there's little reason to use the Intervention over the Barrett .50cal, which provides identical one shot kill capability in addition to more ammo, less sway, and the ability to fire with uncapped semi-auto capability. Despite being mostly outclassed by the Barret .50cal statistically, the Intervention is nevertheless an extremely popular and iconic weapon in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, and one that is used by many in spite of its flaws.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered[]

The Intervention returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as the S-Tac Aggressor, added in the June 27th, 2017 update.

The weapon is unlocked by completing the S-Tac Aggressor bounty. Once unlocked, it is available at all levels and is exclusive to Multiplayer.

Being a magazine-fed bolt-action sniper rifle, the S-Tac Aggressor combines the high power of bolt-action rifles with the quick reload speed of semi-automatic ones. However, the player still needs to cycle the bolt to chamber the next round (slowest in the game, at only 57 rounds per minute), making follow-up shots more difficult. For this reason, Double Tap is a useful attachment as it allows the bolt to cycle faster. Unlike the other bolt action rifles, the M40A3 and the R700, the S-Tac reloads by inserting fresh magazines instead of individual bullets. This makes it relatively faster to reload than its peers when empty or near-empty, but considerably slower to reload single bullets, making it overall less flexible for topping off than the other bolt action rifles.

The S-Tac Aggressor has the same damage multipliers as the R700 and Barrett .50cal, granting it the highest overall damage in the game. In addition to the high damage, the S-Tac Aggressor sports the same ACOG Scope quirk as the M40A3, dealing 75 damage instead of 70 when it is equipped. This allows it to kill with one shot anywhere to the body of a non-Juggernaut user with Stopping Power equipped. The ACOG scope also reduces ADS time from 400 milliseconds to 300 milliseconds, making the S-Tac more nimble at the cost of reduced magnification and the inability to hold breath. The S-Tac is far better than the M40A3 when it comes to fighting Juggernaut users thanks to its increased damage, but suffers from the slowest rate of fire in the game.

Overall, the S-Tac Aggressor is an extremely powerful sniper rifle, in some cases beating even the R700 and Barrett .50cal.
