"Our dog in the fight was a guy named Jonas Savimbi. You think I'm fucking nuts? This guy..."
Frank Woods commenting on Savimbi's personality.
"Our journey to victory has begun! Death to the MPLA!"
— Savimbi, rallying UNITA soldiers against the MPLA.

Jonas Malheiro Savimbi is an Angolan political leader who led the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA). He fought against the Portuguese in the Angolan war of Independence in the 1960s as part of the FNLA. He later became one of the founding members of the UNITA and fought the communist-backed MPLA of Angola in the 26 year long Angolan Civil War. He appears in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and is present during flashbacks to Angola in 1986 during the Angolan Civil War, where he helps Alex Mason and Jason Hudson to find Frank Woods.

He appears in "Pyrrhic Victory", where he leads his UNITA forces against the opposing MPLA forces. He constantly encourages his men to kill as many MPLA soldiers as possible.

Once the MPLA forces are dispersed, Hudson arrives with a helicopter on the battlefield. Savimbi then gives intel on Woods's location and points Hudson and Mason in the right direction. Savimbi then appears at the end of the level with an Mi-24 Hind, fighting back the Cuban forces that attacked Mason, Woods, and Hudson as they escape.
