Junkers Ju 87

From the Call of Duty Wiki

The Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka as it was commonly known (From Sturzkampfflugzeug or English: dive bomber) was a German dive bomber used by the Lufwaffe as their mainstay Close Support Bomber. It was infamous for its Jericho Trumpet siren that wailed when the Stuka performed its dive.

[edit] History

Designed by Hermann Pohlmann, the Stuka first flew on 17 September 1935 and made its combat debut in 1936 as part of the Luftwaffe's Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War.

Stukas are seen in the majority of Call of Duty games but are featured prominently in Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Finest Hour and the final level of Call of Duty: United Offensive.

[edit] Trivia

  • Stukas are incorrectly shown in a lot of the Call of Duty games as a fighter. It could never be a fighter unless in the hands of a very skilled pilot but with almost all other pilots it was strictly a dive/level bomber. The only time they would dogfight with Allied planes is if there was no other alterative to survive and get home, as they were very clunky and cumbersome and their forward firing armament was very weak and meant for stafing.
