The L115 is a bolt-action sniper rifle that appears in Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty Online.

Call of Duty: Ghosts[]

"Bolt-action. Deadly from the knee up through center mass. Recoil Compensator reduces kick with each kill."
— Description.

Campaign[]

Several L115s can be found scattered throughout the campaign missions "No Man's Land", "Struck Down", "Federation Day" and "Sin City". Keegan also uses it sometimes as his main weapon.

Multiplayer[]

The L115 (referred to as L115A3 in the game files) costs seven Squad Points to unlock.

In terms of damage, the L115 is tied with the Lynx for top of the class among sniper rifles. The L115 deals 98 damage per shot before taking damage multipliers into account. The L115 is a one shot kill to the head, neck, torso, and thighs. The L115's one shot kill area is enormous and makes the L115 among the most reliable sniper rifles at netting one shot kills. The L115 has high penetration power, allowing it to retain most of its damage when shooting through surfaces, although one shot kills will be far less common.

The L115's biggest weakness is its fire rate. The L115 has the slowest fire rate of any primary weapon in the game, firing at a lethargic 40 RPM. The user must wait 1.46 seconds between shots. The L115 cannot make a follow-up shot in a timely manner, so it highly punishes missing shots or landing non-lethal shots. Not only does this terrible fire rate highly punish user error, it also leaves the L115 woefully incapable of taking on multiple enemies at once unless the user gets multiple kills with a single shot.

The L115's accuracy is decent for a sniper rifle. The default scope is clean overall, and while the recoil is large, it is mostly irrelevant, since the L115 not only fires very slowly, but it also has a built-in Recoil Compensator when using the default scope, reducing the recoil with each kill in a given life. More importantly, the L115's idle sway is low for a sniper rifle, with only the USR having less idle sway. The low idle sway will help users land more of their shots.

The L115's handling characteristics are average for a sniper rifle. The L115 allows users to move at 85% of the base movement speed, and strafe at 34% of the base movement speed. The L115 allows users to aim down the sights in 480 milliseconds, and the L115's hip-fire spread is enormous. Between enormous hip-fire and a terrible fire rate, the L115 is a horrible weapon in CQC. The L115's reload speeds are average for a sniper rifle. The L115's reload animation is 3.36 seconds long, or 4.03 seconds long on an empty magazine. The L115's Reload Cancel speed is variable. If the magazine was not empty when the reload began, the user can reload cancel after 2.13 seconds. However, on an empty magazine, the user must wait until 2.6 seconds before they can reload cancel. These reload speeds are average for a sniper rifle, and poor overall. Reloading must be done carefully.

The L115 has a small magazine capacity of just five rounds. Unlike other sniper rifles, however, the L115 gets four spare magazines instead of three, so its starting ammo loadout is only the second smallest among sniper rifles, at twenty rounds. Although there is not much ammo to work with, the L115 puts every bullet to good use.

The L115 has the standard assortment of sniper rifle attachments to choose from. It should be noted that using any optical attachment will remove the effect of the Recoil Compensator.

The ACOG Scope is a terrible choice for the L115, as it will make the L115 significantly less accurate overall. Worse, the ACOG Scope promotes a more mobile and aggressive playstyle, one the L115 is not good at due to its terrible fire rate.

The Thermal Scope provides a thermal overlay of the battlefield, illuminating enemies white hot. The Thermal Scope can assist greatly in spotting enemies, especially those who have just a slight part of their body portruding.

The Variable Zoom gives three different zoom levels for the L115's default scope, giving increased versatility. The L115's stock scope is very clean and easy to use, so some may want to use this instead.

The Silencer is a terrible choice on the L115, as it eliminates the L115's ability to get a one shot kill to the thighs and lower torso. All sniper rifles in Ghosts with the Silencer attachment equipped have the same one shot kill area, and due to the L115's terrible fire rate, it makes the L115 by far the worst sniper rifle to silence.

Chrome Lined is a great attachment choice on the L115, as it adds additional body multipliers to parts of the arms and the lower leg, although it oddly subtracts a body multiplier to the left thigh. Overall, it will increase the L115's chances of getting a one shot kill, which is a very good addition due to the L115's terrible fire rate making the weapon very reliant on one shot kills. However, the L115's accuracy is made much worse, as idle sway and idle sway speed are both increased by 25%. Although the L115 is less acurate, the increase in one shot kill area is well worth it.

Extended Mags only increases the L115's magazine capacity by forty percent, up to seven rounds per magazine. The L115's starting ammo loadout increases to 28 rounds. Extended Mags is an attachment with no penalty, but the L115 gets less benefit from it than other sniper rifles, so it may not be the best choice.

Armor-Piercing allows the L115's bullets to ignore the effects of Ballistic Vests and deal far better damage against Juggernaut armor. Armor Piercing can be very valuable, as the health enhancing benefits of both items can very negatively affect the L115's one-shot kill potential.

Overall, the L115 is a perfect fit for more traditional snipers, giving the maximum one shot kill area possible and solid accuracy to boot. It's a simple but very effective sniper rifle that highly rewards accuracy with very few hitmarkers and by virtue of it being one of the easier sniper rifles to land single shots with. However, the L115's anemic fire rate makes it an inflexible sniper rifle that leaves very little room for error. A missed shot, or one that gets a hitmarker, will often give an opponent more than enough time to respond and kill the user. Even if the user lands all their shots, the L115's fire rate is so slow that users are at a severe disadvantage when fighting multiple enemies at once, so users will need to be more selective at how they venture into combat. Careful aiming and engagement of enemies are required to fully extract the potential of the L115.

Extinction[]

The L115 is found in Extinction, on Point of Contact and Nightfall. It costs $1500 to buy, and comes equipped with a Variable Zoom attachment by default. It has an enhanced default magazine capacity of eight rounds.

The L115 is one of the least popular weapons in Extinction, largely due to its poor fire rate and complete lack of close quarters presence. It is also found very late on both maps it can be found on. It is also an incredibly sluggish weapon overall, so it is advised to be using Weapon Specialist or Team Boosters when using this weapon. Combining the Sniper Deadeye armory upgrade and Weapon Specialist power boost makes the L115 significantly more powerful, to the point where it can cleanly kill Scorpions and Hunters in one shot when not striking armour. Said enemies can survive a shot when not struck the right way, but the L115 will deal so much damage on a successful shot that said targets will require minimal follow-up damage, and a second hit will always kill them with sufficient boost.

The L115 is perhaps the worst weapon in the game to tackle on multiple enemies or Rhinos with, as its terrible fire rate gives it one of the worst damage ouptuts in the game. Should the user be chased down by a Rhino, it would be best to switch to another weapon entirely. However, making use of an ammo type that can take advantage of Arcing Stun can improve the L115's group combat capability, being able to arc powerful hits to nearby Cryptids. Despite its enormous shortcomings, the L115 is incredibly successful at killing enemies from a distance, due to the lack of damage drop-off. Due to the L115's ability to deal huge damage at long distances and its huge damage leaving surviving enemies with little health, the L115 works well with Incendiary Ammo, as the residual damage caused by flames can finish off those lucky enough to survive a single shot.

Due to how efficient it is with ammo and the fact that it can use Sniper Deadeye, the L115 is an amazing weapon to farm money with, as all kills with the L115 will net extra cash, which can be incredibly helpful in helping players afford more team supplies or strike packages, and the L115 doesn't run out of ammo quickly either, due to its aforementioned characteristics.

The L115 has a tough time competing with the VKS, another sniper rifle available on Point of Contact. The VKS may not have as much per shot power, but it more than makes up for it with a significantly higher damage output through semi-automatic fire.
