The Luger P08 or the Luger pistol was a German semi-automatic pistol used during World War I and World War II which bears a resemblance to the Japanese Nambu.

[edit] History

The Luger was designed by Georg Luger in the 1890s and was soon adopted by the German Navy in 1904, and in 1908 (as the Pistole 08) by the German Army after the caliber was changed to 9 mm Parabellum because the 7.65 mm Parabellum cartridge was considered too weak.

The Luger was widely issued during World War I and to a certain extent during World War II before being completely replaced by the P-38. Lugers were collected by many Allied soldiers who highly prized it; thousands were taken home as souvenirs. Lugers are a highly valued collector's item due to superior engineering, an ergonomic grip angle and shape, and overall excellent handling. One of these weapons can easily be as high as to $10,000 a piece at antique auctions.

The Luger is the Axis' (and in Call of Duty, the Russian's) pistol of choice. It has eight rounds in its magazine, has mediocre accuracy, and does average damage. Do not use this unless the magazine in your primary weapon is out of ammo and you don't have time to reload.

However, this weapon can be very valuable for a bolt action user that need to get through a tight space. Since bolt action rifles are not effective in close quarters, a pistol will give a player enough firepower and firing speed he needs to fight through a building or as a close quarters weapon overall. The Luger has more power than the Colt .45, but has a slightly lower rate of fire than it.

Exactly the same as it is in Call of Duty. The toggle moves in front of the sights when the gun is fired, which can make aiming down the sights somewhat difficult.

[edit] Call of Duty World at War (DS)

The Luger makes an appearance in the DS version of World at War as Nazi Germany's side-arm in multiplayer.

[edit] Trivia

  • This Pistol, as with most pistols in the Call of Duty series, are unusually held. Since you can only see the player's hand, it should be held right next to your face, rather than your arms reaching forward with the gun, as seen on multiplayer.
  • It would be unusual, although not totally unrealistic, to see a Luger being used by the Wehrmacht, as it was already replaced by the Walther P38.
