Panzer
From the Call of Duty Wiki
The term Panzer, the German word for tank, pronounced Pantser, is a generic term, used to this day for a tank, primarily in Germany. The term comes from an abbreviation of the German word for Tank: Panzerkampfwagen, roughly meaning Armored Battle/Struggle Car.
Panzer is also the name for a series of German Tanks coming in four main variants. Panzer 1, 2, 3 and 4.
[edit] Call of Duty
In the Call of Duty Series the main German Tank you encounter is the Panzer 4 medium tank (Panzerkampfwagen IV or abbreviated PzKpfw IV). Armed with a 75mm high velocity cannon and two MG34 machines guns, it was for its day a good tank. It would continue production throughout the Second World War until Germany no longer had the man power or materials. Upgraded several times it would eventually become obsolete around late 1944. Better equipped allied tanks such as the British Comet could take IV’s out with ease.
[edit] Call of Duty 2
In Call of Duty 2 the main German Tank you encounter is the Panzer 2 light tank (Panzerkampfwagen II or abbreviated PzKpfw II). Armed with a 20mm cannon, coaxial MG34 and sporting relatively thin armour, the tank is no match for most allied models. It can however hold it’s ground against infantry as demonstrated in a number of missions.
[edit] Online Play
The Panzer seats two players (driver and gunner). The driver is responsible for driving the tank, aiming and firing the main gun and coaxial MG34. The gunner has an MG42 mounted in the commander’s couple of which can be aimed and fired. However the gunner’s position in the couple is exposed to fire and combined with the movement of the tank and turret, the MG42 becomes hard to aim. Most players will only choose to use a tank as long as they are the one in the driving position.
