Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Edit
Rio de Janeiro is featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and serves as a battleground for single-player, multiplayer, and Special Ops gameplay. The city is the setting for the level Takedown, where the player must chase down and capture Rojas, an associate of Vladimir Makarov, while fighting the Brazilian Militia that is defending him. The mission The Hornet's Nest is also set in Rio de Janeiro, where the player must escape the city and find the extraction point, the majority of which takes place in a favela. The multiplayer map for Rio de Janeiro is called Favela, which is set in one of the city's urban slums. Finally, the Special Ops missions O Cristo Redentor, Bomb Squad and High Explosive take place in the small Rio villages. In O Cristo Redentor, the player must hunt down and eliminate the Militia, including dogs (Hardened and Veteran only) and soldiers. In Bomb Squad, the player must defuse three different bombs located in the village within a certain time limit. In High Explosive, players must kill ten Juggernaut using only explosive equipment, explosive weapons and a knife.
