The SCAR-H is a weapon appearing as an assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty Online, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Mobile and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, and as a battle rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Campaign[]

The SCAR-H is commonly used by the U.S. Army Rangers, and is one of the weapons in the starting loadout for "Wolverines!" and "Exodus".

It can be scavenged from dead friendlies or found at specific points in the American campaign. It can be found with or without various attachments, depending on the situation including: a Foregrip (in "S.S.D.D."), a Red Dot Sight combined with the Shotgun (in "Wolverines!"), as well as a standalone Red Dot Sight, ACOG Scope, M203 Grenade Launcher, and a Thermal Scope. Furthermore, in "Exodus" it has a laser targeting sight, which is used to paint targets for the Stryker armored vehicle "Honey Badger" to engage.

The SCAR-H is also a starting weapon for the Task Force 141 in "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday" and can also be found in the mission "Loose Ends" dropped by allies and "Just Like Old Times", with a Thermal Scope or underbarrel attachment (Shotgun or Grenade Launcher).

Within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, the SCAR-H sports a new look alongside the reduced magazine size of 20 rounds.

Multiplayer[]

The SCAR-H is unlocked at level 8.

At any range short of 37.5 meters, the SCAR-H will deal forty damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until fifty meters. At any range past fifty meters, the SCAR-H will deal thirty damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. The SCAR-H has a three shot kill range of 45 meters. The SCAR-H deals forty percent extra damage on a headshot, usually reducing the number of shots needed to kill by one, although two headshots are necessary to get a two shot kill. The SCAR-H is a one shot kill at all ranges in Hardcore. The SCAR-H has medium penetration power.

The SCAR-H's damage profile improves with Stopping Power selected. At any range short of 37.5 meters, the SCAR-H will deal 56 damage per bullet, needing two shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until fifty meters. At any range past fifty meters, the SCAR-H will deal 42 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. The SCAR-H has a two shot kill range of roughly 42 meters. Past fifty meters, a single headshot will guarantee a two shot kill on an enemy.

The SCAR-H's fires fully automatically at a rate of 645 RPM.

The SCAR-H has recoil values of 50 to the left, 50 to the right, 55 upwards, and 30 downwards. The SCAR-H has a centerspeed value of 1500.

The SCAR-H allows users to move at 95% of the base movement speed, and strafe at 38% of the base movement speed. The SCAR-H allows users to aim down the sights in 250 milliseconds, and the SCAR-H's hip-fire accuracy is average. The SCAR-H's reload animation is 2.83 seconds long. The user can perform a Reload Cancel after 1.86 seconds.

The SCAR-H is tied with the FAL for the smallest magazine capacity in the assault rifle class, holding twenty rounds per magazine. The SCAR-H's starting ammo loadout is sixty rounds.

The SCAR-H has the standard assortment of assault rifle attachments available to it, with no major functional differences.

Special Ops[]

The SCAR-H is the starting weapon in the Special Ops missions Homeland Security, Body Count, and Wardriving. It is an alternate weapon in The Pit, Snatch and Grab, Overwatch as well as Suspension. Enemies in Snatch and Grab carry it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

"Fully automatic assault rifle. Increased damage and range."
— Description

The SCAR-H returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops II in both the campaign and multiplayer, sporting a new look. It now has a black finish, unlike the beige appearance seen in Modern Warfare 2. Other than the new look, the SCAR-H retains similar high-damage and long-range stats to its predecessor.

Campaign[]

The SCAR-H is used by the U.S. Navy and SEAL Team Six, and is the main weapon of Mike Harper in "Celerium" and "Fallen Angel". It's the recommended primary weapon in "Judgment Day" with a Target Finder and Grenade Launcher.

Multiplayer[]

The SCAR-H is unlocked at level 40.

At any range short of 56 meters, the SCAR-H will deal 45 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. At any range beyond 56 meters, the SCAR-H will deal 33 damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. The SCAR-H is a one shot kill at all ranges in Hardcore game types. The SCAR-H deals 20% extra damage on a headshot, allowing a two shot kill if both shots hit the head. At very long ranges, a single headshot (or even if the enemy has less than 100 health before combat starts) will reduce the number of shots needed to kill by one. The SCAR-H has high penetration power, allowing it to retain the majority of its damage when shooting through cover.

The SCAR-H fires fully automatically at a rate of 625 RPM.

The SCAR-H has recoil values of 25 to the left and 57.5 to the right. The SCAR-H has no recoil value going down, so the SCAR-H will always kick up on each shot, but the intensity of that upwards kick is variable. The SCAR-H will kick upwards with a value of either 15 or 60. The SCAR-H has a centerspeed value of 1500.

The SCAR-H allows users to move at 95% of the base speed, but only strafe at 40% of the base movement speed. The SCAR-H aims down the sight in 250 milliseconds, and the SCAR-H has a moderate hip-fire spread. The SCAR-H's reload animation is 2.4 seconds long, or 3 seconds long if the magazine is empty. The user can Reload Cancel after 1.25 seconds.

The SCAR-H has a thirty round magazine capacity and a 120 round starting ammo loadout, both values being standard for an assault rifle.

The SCAR-H has the usual assortment of attachments on offer, with no major functional differences to note.

The January 26, 2013 patch reduced the idle sway of all assault rifles. The SCAR-H got a buff to its three-shot-kill range by approximately 14%, as well as a minimum damage buff to 33 from 24, ensuring a maximum four-shot-kill at long range (down from five previously).

Zombies[]

The SCAR-H can be obtained from the Mystery Box in the Zombies map Origins, and its upgraded variant is one of the possible rewards for one of the Rituals of the Ancients. It sports extremely high damage, retaining a one bullet headshot kill until Round 9, and a two bullet headshot kill afterwards until Round 13. Double Tap Root Beer makes the SCAR-H extremely effective until around round 23, as the doubled damage synergizes well with its high damage per bullet and speeds up its rather slow fire rate for a faster time to kill, although this can also result in an increased recoil so burst fire is recommended to reduce the possibility of recoil.

When Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the Agarthan Reaper and can obtain a Reflex Sight, ACOG Scope, Fast Mag, Fore Grip or Target Finder through further upgrading. Like most assault rifles, it gains a generous increase in damage, magazine and ammo capacity, making it a worthwhile weapon to use into the higher rounds.

It should also be noted that the Agarthan Reaper deals an extreme amount of damage to the Panzer Soldat, and the player can kill one within a matter of seconds if aiming for the head.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]

"Large caliber, fully automatic assault rifle that provides high damage over long ranges."
— In-game description

The SCAR-H returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the FN Scar 17.

Overview[]

Campaign[]

It's Garrick's primary weapon in his segment of Into the Furnace.

Multiplayer[]

The FN Scar 17 is unlocked at rank 47 (Sergeant Major II) and is a high power, fully-automatic assault rifle. It features a 3-shot kill anywhere to the body within 30 meters. Past this range it will only need 4 shots to kill, and 2 shots to the head will kill at any distance. In hardcore, the Scar will be a 1-hit kill at any range. This high damage is kept in check by a slow fire rate of 600 RPM. This isn’t the slowest of the assault rifles but is far from the fastest. Time-to-kill is still quite respectable though. The Scar also lacks the chest damage multiplier granted to its closest competitor, the AK-47. This means that it can’t get 3-shot kills to the upper torso at long range like the AK.

Like most of the other high damage rifles, the Scar has pretty mediocre handling. ADS time is very slow for the class which can hamper its ability to get bullets onto target quickly. Move speed is also slightly subpar and hipfire spread is average but best saved for emergencies due to the slow fire rate. Reload speed is reasonably quick though. This is quite fortunate as the gun only comes with 20-round magazines by default. The small mags also mean that your starting reserve ammo is low and easily expended under fully-automatic fire. Additionally, the Scar’s recoil is moderate with a predictable upward-right bounce. Compared to the AK-47, the Scar has lower recoil, a slightly faster fire rate (and thus faster kill time), and a marginally better maximum damage range. However, the AK has a larger default magazine, the ability to kill in 3-shots to the chest at any range, and slightly faster ADS and reload times.

The Scar has a fairly typical array of attachments for an assault rifle. The FORGE TAC CQC Pro barrel will significantly boost the Scar’s ADS and move speeds at the cost of some long range effectiveness. For those seeking a more aggressive weapon, this barrel will help it handle much more like the other, lighter assault rifles. The FORGE TAC LB barrels will slightly slow down the Scar but grant improved damage range and recoil control, both of which are quite useful for longer ranged roles. Equipping an optic in addition to a long barrel is quite helpful for long range combat, something the Scar can pull off thanks to its high damage.

In addition to tailoring the Scar to specific roles, attachments can help alleviate the gun’s weaknesses. ADS speed boosting attachments like Stippled Grip Tape will help the gun aim faster for more aggressive use. If the recoil is too high, then attachments that boost recoil control or recoil stabilization will help reduce it. Sleight of Hand or an extended magazine will make the low capacity much more manageable. A larger magazine will also provide more reserve ammo for longer streaks, though it will slightly reduce move speed. One thing to note is that the AK-47 has larger extended magazines (40 and 75 rounds versus 25 and 30 on the Scar), so those seeking enormous magazines might find the Scar lacking in this regard.

Call of Duty: Mobile[]

"Large caliber, fully automatic assault rifle that provides high damage over long ranges."
— In-game description

The SCAR-H returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the DR-H. It was added as part of the Season 8 The Forge update.

Multiplayer[]

The DR-H is a unique rifle among the "high-damage, high recoil" rifles, though it is somewhat outclassed by most due to its lackluster magazine. It can deal 32 to the chest and legs, with 41 to the head, though it also mysteriously does more damage to the arms, at 36, meaning it may be more rewarding to shoot the limbs rather than center mass, which contributes to inconsistent damage. With OTM, it outright increases multipliers, making it slightly more lethal, with a three-shot to the chest and above.

Battle Royale[]

The DR-H is arguably the worst weapon in Battle Royale without any mods, with poor magazine size and inconsistent damage.

Trivia[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

  • Directly under the iron sights are text that reads "INFINITY WARD INC. ENCINO, CA. www.infinityward.com and IW BROCK," and on the side it reads, "Infinity Ward, USA, MK 17 Mod 0 Cal. 7.62x51 0048762".
  • In "S.S.D.D.", a SCAR-H attached with a Foregrip can be found in The Pit, and can also be seen being used by the Army Rangers. The SCAR-H's pick-up and killfeed icon shows a foregrip, showing that it could have been a default attachment fairly early in development.
  • The SCAR-H that Dunn uses in "Museum" is unique, in which it has a Thermal Scope that cannot be steadied and has the lower recoil of the Red Dot Sight or Holographic Sight.
  • There is a fingerprint on the rear iron sight that is visible under the correct lighting.
  • When an optic is attached to the SCAR-H, the rear sight is not present and the front sight is folded.
  • In the campaign, the SCAR-H is often found with a unique Red Dot Sight that has a beige rim instead of a grey one.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

  • In early trailers, the SCAR-H used the same model as the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 version.
  • In the Create-a-Class menu, on pick-up icon as well as the first-person view, the SCAR-H has a shorter barrel, corresponding to the CQC model, while in third-person view the SCAR-H has a longer barrel. This is the exact opposite of the HAMR.
  • Strangely, if equipped with the Gold Camouflage, the third-person model lacks some of the parts that have been turned into black that are on the first-person model, which were the main rail system and the adjusting tool for the iron sights.
  • On the left side of the gun, near the stock, there is writing that reads "SCAR 17S" and "R&W EL PASO, TEXAS".

Call of Duty: Mobile[]

  • The base model of the DR-H has the same model as "The Traitor" blueprint from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
