"The VSD-Prototype Nine uses duel unit rotors and functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) to allow absolute control in advanced integration between man and machine. Designed with the core concept to read thoughts in real time, the VSD p9 is the latest integration of our drone design with an FMRI sensor and firepower upgrade like no others. With real time response speed, the VSD is more suitable for tasks such as auto defined perimeters and defense modes, where vantage mobility and suppression firepower is the utmost importance."
— In-game description

The VSD-Protoype 9, (also known as the Sniper Drone, or WASP in Manhunt) is a pilotable aerial drone with mounted weapon in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The VSD is a drone that can be armed with a variety of weapons, ranging from machine guns to sniper weapons. It is also equipped with cloaking technology, allowing it to perform covert ops missions.

Campaign[]

It appears in the level "Manhunt". In the mission, Mitchell and Ilona use a VSD to support Gideon's Atlas team infiltrating a building where Hades is having a conference.

After the team finds out that the "Hades" was only a double, Mitchell must use the VSD to kill the KVA teams that engaged Atlas. After a moment, KVA drones shoot it down. During the mission, it has optical camouflage and use a silenced mounted sniper. It can be manually controlled and can strafe.

Multiplayer[]

The drone is also present in the multiplayer map Terrace, as the map Scorestreak available from the Orbital Care Package. The drone is manually controlled, much like in the campaign, but it can only strafe one side of the map.

The drone retains its one-hit kill ability, being able to very easily pick off exposed players, though acquiring targets may be more difficult than traditional sniping; the drone lacks any sort of reticule except for a single red dot. If an enemy drone is called in, simply stay indoors, or on the side of the map opposite the drone.

Like most controllable Scorestreaks, enemies will be marked with a red target unless they are using Blind Eye. Teammates will have their name above their heads, but only if they are very close to the drone, such as on the lower balcony.

At further locations, teammates and enemies using Blind Eye will have no markers or names, making it very difficult to distinguish between the two. This can prove detrimental in Hardcore modes, as friendly players may inadvertently be targeted.

Interestingly, the "hold breath" function from sniper rifles can be used while zooming in with the drone, and likewise the view will sway uncontrollably after holding it steady for two seconds.
