The Tacitus Corporation is a weapons corporation featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Strike Team, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III that mainly produces drones and military technology. The company is featured in Uplink and Vertigo. At some point it was awarded a $50 billion contract to develop UAVs for the US military. However, in reality it was a shell corporation for Raul Menendez in the 2025 storyline arc, which he invested in using money from his lucrative trade in illicit drugs and weapons. Menendez used his influence in Tacitus to ensure that there were back doors into the drones' control systems that would allow his followers to gain full control over them.

After the death of Menendez and the dissolution of Cordis Die, the corporation was shut down under legislation that allowed for the seizure of terrorist finance assets. This asset seizure would provide the initial funding for the Allied Drone Defense Act, which was created in response to Menendez's hijacking of the US drone fleet. Many of its patents and intellectual properties were later acquired by the Coalescence Corporation. A large number of Coalescence's products are based off Tacitus's products and research[1].

Trivia[]

  • In the document, there is a sentence in Latin, "Morbi luctus, odio a consectetur blandit, dui tortor cursus tortor, vel consectetur metus dui id dolor." When translated, it results in nonsensical gibberish, or "Green, despite the lack of development, temperature industrial temperature requirements, or feel that the main fear of the pain.", meaning that the phrase is likely intended as a faux-Latin filler text.
  • In the downloadable content pack, Uprising, the multiplayer map named Vertigo takes place on a skyscraper which is owned by the Tacitus Corporation.
  • The Tacitus Corporation in multiplayer is also known as CyberDrone Industries as noted in Vertigo, Uplink, Skyjacked and Spire.
  • In the pre-alpha for Black Ops II, Tacitus was a playable faction in multiplayer referred to as "Tacitus PMC".[2]
