The Thermobaric Grenade a piece of Tactical equipment featured in Call of Duty: Ghosts and a Lethal equipment in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

Call of Duty: Ghosts[]

"Fuel and air grenade that creates a large but low-damage blast radius. Ignores and weakens armor."
— Description

The Thermobaric Grenade weakens armor, making it good against Ballistic Vests, Maniac and Juggernaut pointstreak rewards. The Thermobaric Grenade has a large blast radius but low damage. It can be useful to finish off an injured opponent that is taking cover. The amount of damage caused by two thermobaric grenades is enough to kill an enemy at full health, so using the Extra Tactical perk can turn these tactical grenades into lethal weapons to clear rooms, choke points and heavy traffic locations. This is due to the fact that a Thermobaric Grenade deals 50 damage outright, and adds an 85% weakness to explosive damage for 5 seconds. This means that even the weakest explosive at its weakest point will finish the player off. Tac Resist negates the effectiveness of the Thermobaric Grenade.

Like Frag Grenades and 9-Bangs, Thermobaric Grenades can be cooked before being thrown. This makes Strong Arm an effective perk to use with them. Recon can also be quite effective due to the grenade's large blast radius.

Caution should be taken when cooking a Thermobaric Grenade for too long, as it will explode in the player's hand and kill them instantly, just like normal Frag Grenades do.
