The USS Liberator (CVN-81) was a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier built and operated by United States Navy in Call of Duty: Ghosts. It first appeared in the cutscene for Sin City and later in the level All or Nothing. According to Merrick, the Liberator was the last aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy that was either combat capable or that had not been sunk from the last ten years of War Against the Federation.

The Liberator was likely built in the years leading up to the Federation's initial assault on the United States since the U.S. would not have had the resources to construct such a vessel after the ODIN Strikes. The Liberator was part of the American pre-war military buildup so as to maintain order worldwide after the Tel Aviv War and stand against the Federation. Since ODIN struck San Diego, it is likely that a significant portion of the U.S. Pacific Fleet―including several aircraft carriers―were destroyed, leaving the Liberator as one of the few remaining major naval assets.

In the mission All or Nothing, the USS Liberator Carrier Battle Group is part of a large South Pacific U.S. task-force, that includes the USS Carolina and USS Oregon as they prepared to launch a full-scale invasion on Federation member state Chile in an attempt to destroy the Federation's ground array, a massive satellite facility which serves as the ground control station for the nation's orbital weapons facility FEDSAT/LOKI Space Station.

On July 5th, 2027, the USS Liberator Carrier Battle Group was intercepted by a large Federation naval task force. F/A-18E Super Hornets and V-22 Ospreys scrambled to take off from the flight deck as the carrier was being being boarded by amphibious assault teams. As Naval personnel and Ghosts held the line against the Federation, it seemed that the United States was on the verge to victory, as they took out multiple Zodiacs, Mi-24 Hinds and even a Y-8 Gunship. But things changed as the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected multiple orbital rods entering the atmosphere. The Federation resorted to LOKI and used its weapons against the Carrier Battle Group, with one rod directly striking the Liberator, destroying the bridge tower and causing it to capsize on its left (port) side and eventually sinking into the Southeast Pacific.

Although the transports carrying the ground assault forces had managed to escape the attack, the Carrier Battle Group including the Carolina and the Oregon were presumably destroyed.
