A set of co-ordinates which lead to Roosevelt Avenue, Caracas, Venezuela

A censored extract with only "183.84" uncensored. 183.84 is the relative atomic mass of tungsten. Tungsten is a material that is associated with the half-fiction, half-nonfiction warfare known as kinetic bombardment.

A patch for the PC has been released for Black Ops II. Details of the patch are listed below:

Feature Improvements

Added a limited time game mode to the Bonus Playlist, the Arms Race Team Deathmatch variant awards players 150 score per kill. Let the Scorestreak wars begin.
Added a new playlist to Party Games that includes all party gamemodes. Get the party started with Party Mix.
Party matchmaking is no longer determined by the partyleader's content ownership, but is instead determined by any content that is owned by all party members.
General improvements to matchmaking.

Multiplayer Issues Addressed

Fixed an issue where portions of the screen would be cut off in some display resolutions.
Fixed a crash that would sometimes occur while rendering a clip.
Fixed some cases where gamepad button prompts would be missing while using a gamepad.
Fixed an issue where the double XP icon would appear in Custom Games and League Play when double xp was not being awarded.
Removed an erroneous store link in the videos section of File Manager.
Store links now correctly link to individual item store pages instead of the Black Ops 2 game page in Steam.
Fixed an issue reported by the community where players could get infinite ammo for the Death Machine and War Machine.
Addressed an issue reported by the community where players may not die when getting stuck with a Crossbow Bolt.
Fixed an issue reported by the community where the Hunter Killer drones will float around slowly when they miss a target from a certain angle.
Players can now enter the crouched position while sprinting with the Riot Shield equipped.
Care packages now appear in blue and orange on the map when Color Blind Assist is enabled.
Resolved an issue where players and turrets could survive the water rush when in certain areas on Hydro.
Addressed an issue with League Teams appearing incorrectly when a player views another player’s League Team in the Leaderboards.
Fixed a formatting issue in Leagues Season Final text where the date the player was placed was wrapping incorrectly.
Overkill challenges will now progress if the player is using an alternate select fire mode.
The upper metal plate of a planted Assault Shield now appears in the proper position during a Killcam.
Addressed an issue with the Custom and Private Match change team scoreboard not updating in real time when the overlay is on screen.
Addressed a rapid scrolling issue in the Preset Class Menu.
Chopper Hunter Field Specialist challenge updated to Aircraft Hunter with a description that reflects the aircrafts that need to be destroyed to complete the challenge.
Fixed an issue with the last player alive defusing the bomb in Search & Destroy not receiving any defuse points.
The icon to distinguish a Search & Destroy bomb location is now visible to a Codcaster who is spectating the defending team.
Fixed an issue in the Combat Record where the images would disappear when scrolling off of and on to the Combat Record.

Gameplay Balancing

Reverted global spawn influencer change from previous game update due to undesirable side effects.

Zombies Mob of the Dead Issues Addressed

Players can no long get stuck by skipping the loading cutscene before a map has finished loading.
Addressed various zombie pathing issues throughout the map.
Fixed an issue where character conversations would overlap with each other.
Addressed several exploits involving zombie pathing and the zombie shield.
Resolved various pathing issues where zombies would not path to players behind open doors.
Fixed an issue where players would see a ‘Connection Interrupted’ message on screen at the end of the game.
Resolved an issue with textures displaying in low resolution.

A patch for Black Ops II has gone live today on the 360. It mainly addresses multiplayer issues, but there is some gameplay balancing and a couple of fixes for zombies too.

The patch also hit PlayStation 3 a couple days later, on 4/12/13.

Black Ops II receives large title update

According to the Treyarch forums, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has had a massive title update already released for the PS3 and one which will be released soon for the Xbox 360. The changes concern some new features/improved features, various performance issues, and also some gameplay rebalancing.

New Features & Feature ImprovementsEdit

Added support for posting Live Stream URLs to Twitter.
Improved audio/rumble responsiveness when hitting enemies with gunfire.
Improved overall communication of Double XP when enabled.
AAR better communicates how much XP was earned in each match.
Added the ability to "View League Teams" from any player's Playercard.
Added the ability to “View Playercard” from League solo leaderboards.
Added a number of security system enhancements.
Added Hardcore Kill Confirmed playlist to the Hardcore category

Issues AddressedEdit

Fixed a rare hang (“Awaiting Textures”) upon loading into maps when joining a session in progress after fresh boot.
Game now resets the Care Package for a non-owner if the owner re-rolls the package using the Engineer perk.
Players with Black Hat PDA can no longer hack a Care Package faster than the owner can capture it.
Addressed an exploit where modified console hackers could maliciously spread infected films to other users.
Added a fail-safe to prevent spawn trapping in CTF.
Increased sight checks on turrets to improve spawning algorithms.
Fixed a number of new UI error messages reported by users.

The median for the K/D graph in the AAR is set to 1.0 instead of 0.0.

Counter UAV no longer remains for the rest of the game after a host migration.
Clan tag is no longer locked immediately after prestige.
Offline profiles can no longer be exploited to join online games when an online profile is also signed in.
Multi-team games no longer count as a tie if an entire team quits.
Fixed an area in Express where K9 Unit dogs could get stuck.
EMP grenades no longer affect the CODcaster HUD.
Party Privacy count no longer affects how many bots will spawn in Combat Training.
Shadows seen through sniper scopes now render more correctly.
Players can no longer stand on invisible collision in Carrier.
“Drop Shot” medal is no longer awarded after standing back up.
Players can now copy a custom class to the extra prestige slot.

Gameplay BalancingEdit

The following is a list of numerous gameplay balancing tweaks that were made after thorough review of statistical data from usage patterns of weapons, equipment, perks and scorestreaks since launch.

Scorestreaks

UAV: cost increased from 350 to 425.
Lightning Strike: added 750ms delay

Equipment/Grenades

Bouncing Betty: increased the grace period between trigger and activation by 200ms.
Sensor Grenade: increased the range (now 1000 units), frequency (now 800ms between pings), and amount of time (now 6s) that players appear after explosion.
Concussion Grenade: decreased movement penalty and turn speed penalty when hit.

SMGs

All: increased hip fire recoil.
All: increased max hip fire spread from 4.75 to 5.
All: reduced bullet penetration.
MSMC: increased recoil slightly.
PDW-57: increased recoil slightly.

Assault Rifles

All: reduced idle sway for more reliable long-range aiming.
XM8: reduced lethal range of 3-hit kills from 250 to 50 inches.
XM8 + Select Fire: increased recoil.
FAL OSW + Select Fire: increased recoil.
SWAT-556 + Select Fire: increased recoil.
MTAR: Made auto aim values consistent with all other assault rifles.

Sniper Rifles

All: increased hip fire spread.
All + Laser Sight: increased hip fire spread.
XPR-50: increased recoil slightly.

Shotguns:

R870: reduced one-hit kill range by 45 inches. (114.3cm)

Pistols:

B23R: reduced headshot multiplier from 1.4 to 1.
KAP-40: reduced headshot multiplier from 1.4 to 1

Why Metacritic user ratings are bad

TL;DR Metacritic user ratings suck

If you didn't know already, Metacritic's aggregate user rating scores for Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2 are dismally low. This contrasts with the critic aggregate ratings which are generally quite high.

Some people might like to claim that the "players know best" or even go as far as to claim that the critics are bribed. This doesn't mean that Metacritic's widely-renowned user rating is reliable, or even accurate.

There are a few of reasons why the user ratings aren't accurate or reliable and why you shouldn't take them into account. One of them is a slightly psychological view of it and the others are a more down-to-earth explanation.

First off, the psychology behind lots of Metacritic user ratings is to exaggerate it as much as possible. If you look at Black Ops II for PS3's user ratings thus far, you can see that there are a heck of a lot of 0s. Now look at the reasoning. Some of the reasoning doesn't even have anything to do with the game. Now look at the PC version's reviews. Lots of 0s as well, but one of them stands out, with it starting "I'm too lazy to even download the game".

So what you have there is someone (or something, as will be discussed shortly) who doesn't even own the game giving it a review (another factor which will be discussed shortly). This knocks the reliability of these reviews right off the cliff, just from this point it is clear these reviews are poorly thought out.

Another reason the user ratings suck is because of the fact you don't need to own the game to leave a review. That really speaks for itself - it leads to biased and/or plainly uninformed reviews. Springing off of this, old versions of the game may have had bugs which caused people to give such a poor rating. This was the case for Skyrim on PS3 which had the infamous issue with RAM deficiency when a large game save was loaded.

This is a more swanky reason that the Metacritic user ratings are unreliable and inaccurate. It's somewhat clear that the Metacritic user ratings are swamped with bots to upvote bad ratings, downvote good ratings and leave bad ratings. You can see that with the image to the right (click to expand - read both reviews, they're paraphrases of each other), and also on these links - 1 2. These are more than likely bots used to downrate games and not actual humans, or at the very least, one very sad person on multiple accounts.

So in conclusion, it's better to rent a game and see for yourself than base your opinion off of unreliable aggregate review scores. In many cases, the critic reviews are more trustworthy, but you can't ever beat your own opinion on a game to see if you'll enjoy it or not.

Glimpse of Nuketown 2025

Today a short clip has been released on CALLOFDUTY's YouTube channel showing a short glimpse of Nuketown 2025.

In the video, a shot of a Nuketown sign along with a mannequin and classic car on a plinth is shown as a large explosion and mushroom cloud arise in the background. The shockwave then sweeps everything towards the camera.

Black Ops II breaks Gamestop pre-order records and more

According to this article, Call of Duty: Black Ops II has broken all previous Gamestop records for the amounts of pre-orders a game has received.

Gamestop president Tim Bartel says "consumer anticipation for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" is tremendous, and that the retail store is currently seeing the highest pre-orders in history.", and that "With its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time"

This trend of record-breaking pre-orders has been the trend for Call of Duty games since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

nielsenwire reports that Black Ops II is the second-most anticipated game on Xbox 360 (only just losing out to Halo 4 by 0.25%) and it is is the most anticipated game on PS3.

As you can hopefully see by now, we've rolled out a new, darker, more Black Ops-esque theme, along with a new logo. There may be some very minor issues to be ironed out, but in the grand scheme of things, the theme is complete. We're hoping you like it.

Dave Cook describes the game as being "three games in one", emphasising the fact that now the Zombies mode is more than just a "side-expansion", it is a full, open-world campaign.

ZombiesEdit

The core campaign mode of the game is TranZit, and the plot kicks off right after the events of Rezurrection. As opposed to being set in the 2025 era that the main campaign of the game is set in, it appears to be set in the current era and appears to take place in the American South-West, "with burned out diners, boarded up theatres and rusted car shells lining the dilapidated streets."

With the zombie invasion back, the only way for the player to escape is to traverse the region either by foot or on bus, and during the players travels they will come across several key locales - these are selectable to play on in Survival mode for a mode reminiscent of past incarnations of Zombie mode. There seems to be a new crafting mechanic too, as a player was seen crafting a spiked shield out of a car door and some shrapnel, which can be used as a weapon.

On top of the two aforementioned game modes, there is a new mode named Grief, which pits two teams of four players against each other.

Celerium is the second level of the game, and follows Mason and Harper attempting an undercover attack on a drone facility run by Raul Mendez. The mission is set in Cuba which draws a nice parallel to the first level of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The duo have to navigate a cliff, using "nano-gloves", to climb down the wall looking like "gruff Spider-Men". This differs from the mundane rappel sections of past games since the player can now choose their own way down the cliff to find the best path possible.

Dave Cook compliments Trent Reznor's score, commenting that fans of his music for The Social Network "will enjoy what he’s done in Black Ops 2". After Mason and Harper reach the foot of the cliff, they team up with some more friendlies. Since the objective is far away, they dive off another cliff and use winged jumpsuits to soar through the air to reach the objective. None of the flying sequence is scripted and once again it is up to the player to find the best path to take while avoiding all obstacles.

After the player lands in a thick jungle, Harper spots cloaked enemy snipers. The player can then make the choice whether or not to take the enemies down silently and steal their cloaking suits for a tactical advantage, or go loud.

The player then comes to an area populated by enemies which are guarding the objective. Here, it is obvious the only way forward is to attack, however alternate tactics exist, as were demoed by Treyarch as the player snuck around to the back and hacked into a turret to turn it against the enemy. As the attack commences, the storm rolls in further, disrupting visibility notably and throwing debris all over the place. At this point the MMR Scope comes in handy, using sonar to provide highlights of enemies through the storm at timed intervals. More evidence of unscripted, free gameplay are shown as the player knocks down some stone pillars, killing soldiers underneath.

After this, the player enters the underground drone facility, finding it to be very high tech, moreso than expected. Before the demo abruptly cuts, the team is assaulted by CLAW Mechs.

Dave Cook provides a recap of important albeit already known info, including the prestige system, unlock tokens as a prestige award, and the fact that there are more unlocks than there are levels.

Game modes include the classics, including Search & Destroy, Team Deathmatch and Domination. Alongside, there are some new modes, such as Hardpoint, a new king-of-the-hill style mode where players fight for control of random points on the map.

There is a new Party playlist, containing modes like Gun Game and One in the Chamber, however these are not wager matches and instead simply award XP. Combat Training is expanded, featuring 3 modes, Bootcamp from level 1 to 10, pitting 1 team of 3 humans and 1 team of 3 bots against each other, Objective, which covers all objective modes at level 10+, and Bot Stomp pitting 6 players against 6 bots.

There are also over 1000 new challenges that unlock cosmetic items like callsign customisations, and decals for the emblem editor, which now supports 32 layers.

The new multiplayer map Express was shown, which has a high-speed train making laps around the map, killing anything that steps in its path.

Yeah, it really is, even if you aren’t a fan of what Call of Duty has offered before. Zombies is its own game now, so you needn’t even touch the rest of the package if you don’t want to. But if you do decide to enter the competitive arena, the Combat Training mode has been tailored to give CoD virgins a leg-up.

Also, multiplayer keeps on getting bigger to the point of intimidation. When the hell are we going to find time to play all of it? No matter, we’re suitably impressed with everything Treyarch as shown so far.

As the November 13th release date inches closer, we’re not far from seeing how well the game scores at review. It will be interesting to see how the industry responds.

No PS3 HDD install for Black Ops II

According to this thread on callofduty.com, David Vonderhaar has explained that Black Ops II will not be able to be installed to the HDD, and instead, only an option to install the textures to the HDD will be provided.

Vonderhaar claims that "installing to the HDD wouldn't neccessarily give us any significant performance gains".

Black Ops II coming to Wii U?

According to this G4TV article, pre-order tags for Black Ops II have appeared at a Best Buy store.

This article from Go Nintendo later clarifies the situation, saying that although the preorder signs for Black Ops II on the Wii U were made by an employee, the barcodes on the signs were legitimate UPCs (universal product codes) and that the SKU (stock-keeping unit) was indeed in the Best Buy commercial systems.

Today is the 1st anniversary of the Utoya shooting and bomb in Oslo. Once again our thoughts & prayers are with all those who were affected by the horrible event that happened 1 year ago today.

New Black Ops II Behind the Scenes Video

Today a new video regarding behind-the-scenes work on Call of Duty: Black Ops II has been released.

Mark Lamia talks about the relevance of Hollywood's blockbuster tradition to the video game industry. He states that nowadays, Hollywood's stars, writers and directors are willing to work in the video game industry as well.

David S. Goyer, who is a writer for the newest Batman trilogy, and now Call of Duty: Black Ops II, tells us how although the game is just a First Person Shooter, it needs to be sophisticated, and overall the storyline is being looked at like a movie production.

Goyer proceeds to claim that the story of Black Ops II is better than "most movies being made".

The interview then switches to Trent Reznor, who produced the score for The Social Network, and is now producing the score for Black Ops II.

Lamia states that the player will be able to hear Reznor's work as soon as the player starts up the game.

In an earlier trailer released this week for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Raul Menendez, antagonist and "the Messiah of the 99%", was teased for the first time. As seen at 0:10 in that trailer, Raul Menendez reached his people through a Youtube channel called "Cordis Die". On July 9th, 2012 (a day before the trailer above came out), a Youtube channel "Cordis Die" appeared as seen here, with one currently uploaded video named "New World", which can be seen below. Could this be the Black Ops 2 equivalent of GKNOVA6.com?

Terminal for MW3 release dates

...or rather, release date for Xbox 360 and lack of release date for PS3 and PC.

According to this tweet, Terminal is set to launch on the Xbox 360 on July 17th for ELITE members and July 18th for non-ELITE members.

Mark Rubin later tweeted that there was no release date for Terminal on PS3 or PC at this time, and on this longer tweet, he confirms that Terminal, being a fan favourite, will be a free map and is not part of the Content Calendar.

Black Ops to be released on Mac OSX?

According to this Steam product listing lifted from Steam files, listings for OSX files for Call of Duty: Black Ops and its related DLCs are present.

The last game to be released natively for Mac OSX was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Between the OSX and Windows versions, there are essentially no differences. If Black Ops is released on OSX, it will be the first Call of Duty game to be released on OSX via Steam.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified details released

According to this WalMart product listing, the game is to explore '"original fiction"' with "all-new campaign of Special Ops missions"

It will also have, in addition to a "Special Ops Story Mode", "Multiplayer combat tailored for the PS Vita.".

The WalMart product listing also lists the price at $49.96. Note that the shipping date is shown as the 31st December 2012, however knowing Call of Duty's holiday release dates, the shipping date listed is more than likely a placeholder.

If you didn't already know, according to the main page, the wiki celebrates its 5th birthday today, and as with every year, also shares its birthday with the anniversary of the Normandy landings.

So looking back at where it started with Russia as the first article, you can see that it's pretty awesome how far we've come.

I think we can all give ourselves a pat on the back for the work put in over the past 5 years in making this one of the best, if not the best, places for Call of Duty information on the web. Not to mention the great community here. Everyone is thankful for every editor's hard work.

West and Zampella talk about Activision's "Project Icebreaker"

West and Zampella, the duo who have taken Activision to court over unpaid royalties and other contract-related issues, have been interviewed by Game Informer on the matter.

West states that Activision has said "He [West] orchestrated his own firing" and then went on to say that he "will never forget that." Zampella then added on, saying "We're geniuses, apparently."

According to the attorney for West and Zampella, Robert Schwartz, the claim Activision is now using against the duo is that an unknown "expert" noted that had the rest of the Infinity Ward team been around to work on Modern Warfare 3 instead of being fired by Activision, the game would've made more of a turnover for Activision. They accuse West and Zampella of "orchestrating" the entire situation which led to employees being fired.

Schwartz goes on to say that George Rose, head lawyer for Activision, asked Thomas Fenady, an IT specialist at Activision, to break into the computers of West and Zampella to uncover anything that Activision could use to fire them. This was "Project Icebreaker". Fenady would be doing this under full authority from Bobby Kotick, and Fenady has himself testified to doing this.

The trial has been delayed to June 1st, which is where we can see this play out in court.

Black Ops 2 campaign demo, much info released

According to this article, NOW gamer were able to preview two levels of the Black Ops II campaign.

Protect P.O.T.U.S.Edit

They can confirm that "Black Ops 2 puts the president's life in your hands". The first mission where the player is put in this scenario is called Protect P.O.T.U.S. It introduces the player to the "volatile world of 2025", which is being terrorised by one Raul Menendez, who has hijacked the computerised and automated army of the United States. Raul has sent this army to Los Angeles where it is to attempt to eliminate political leaders of the world at a G20 Summit being held there. David Mason and Harper are given the task of evacuating the President to safety.

The mission begins very suddenly and with a violent tone, showing that "Black Ops 2 means business. " David Mason is tasked with surveying the area, and to receive presidential plans, and then to escape an already-evacuated Los Angeles with the now-confirmed female President in order to prepare a counter-attack against the automated army.

During the mission, the player sees that the LA skyline is in total ruin, while multitudes of unmanned vehicles and stealth bombers continue to wreak havoc.

Essentially, take the madness of Modern Warfare 3's New York opening and double it.

Before this is seen, the escape vehicle the team is using is run off of the road. As Mason regains his standing, human enemies begin to attack the team, although their nationality still remains unknown. Mason helps his team return fire with his Type 95 rifle. On account of a low visibility, Mason uses an x-ray ACOG scope to help see through the mist. All of this happening while drones fly ahead who could kill you in seconds if you linger around too long out of cover. After the human enemies are dealt with, Mason gets in the turret of a crashed military vehicle and fires barrages of "Skyburst" missiles, destroying multiple drones. Mason rejoins his squad in a large shopping mall after gunning enemies down with his KSG-12, and after finding out the mall is full of enemies, sends 10 Quadrotors in to take as many enemies out as possible.

Moral and tactical choicesEdit

The player is given the choice of whether to rappel down a damaged stretch of road to help the President at CQB, or stay above and help at longer range at one point in the mission. These types of decisions will come at the player "thick and fast", and when combined with Strike Force Operations, will really change up how the game takes course, and the final outcome.

If you're a fan of Battlefield 3's vehicular combat, you'll love the drones in Black Ops 2.

The Quadrotors sent in can be controlled autonomously, or the player can assume control of one of them from a first-person perspective. The choice is once again up to the player.

It is also possible to hack vehicles to assume control of them. This is seen in the mission where Mason encounters a CLAW mech, which is actually no taller than the player. The player can either choose to destroy it, or fire a wrist-mounted "hack dart" into the mech to assume control. The player then enters an off-the-rails, FPS perspective control of the mech.

After this happens, a skyscraper topples over, displaying the upgraded game engine's capabilities fully. When Mason is ordered to give air support, he enters a Harrier jet and does so. And it's fully off-rails.

This is the moment that many onlookers realised that Black Ops 2 isn't the same old Call of Duty, and that war definitely can change.

Strike ForceEdit

Black Ops 2's Strike Force Operations are the biggest thing to happen to Call of Duty in years.

After the jet part of Protect P.O.T.U.S., a Strike Force mission begins. Strike Force missions are small campaign missions where the player is given full control of what happens, they can choose what wars to wage and how to approach each objective. The mission shown off takes place in Singapore, where a strike force deploys onto a dock where a ship containing sensitive documents is docked. The ship must not be allowed to leave, so the strike force is tasked with destroying two missile shields within 20 minutes. If this objective is failed, the mission is not restarted, instead it continues, taking a different path.

In Strike Force, it is possible for the player to view the battle from one of their team's perspective, or take an Real Time Strategy-esque perspective, called Overwatch mode. In Overwatch mode, you can use x-ray vision to find enemies and strategically guide your forces around them. The player can even take it upon themselves to pilot a vehicle to provide support.

Zombies is now "integral" to the multiplayer, with an addition of a 4 vs. 4 mode, where two teams pit it out against each other to earn the most points. Mark Lamia also comments that multiplayer has largely been built from scratch, and will appeal to all skill levels.

Activision's "Project Icebreaker"

Project Icebreaker -the name sounds like a codename for a new game- is the codename for an internal investigation of Activision. This internal investigation occurred several months before the release of Modern Warfare 2 and was launched in response to Jason West and Vince Zampella, the founders of Infinity Ward. According to the lawyer of West and Zampella, this is not the first time that an internal investigation was started targeting Infinity Ward's founders.

The goal of Project Icebreaker was to improve the relationship between Infinity Ward and Activision, but there were also plans in the event that negative information would be found. Thomas Fenady, former IT Director at Activision, received from the Legal Department instructions to commence a secret investigation of West and Zampella. He was to break into the computers of West and Zampella to and track their email. He was also to give their voicemail to Activision.

Fenady was to do all of this without being caught and not worry about the consequences. He was not asked specifically to look for incriminating evidence. He asked Microsoft for help breaking into their computers, but Microsoft wouldn't help without a court order. Fenady was unable to access the computers.

Activision and EA settle their differences - court case settled

In a rather interesting turn of events, the most recent news on Activision's various lawsuit dilemmas is encouraging - EA and Activision have decided to put their dispute over EA interfering in Call of Duty's development behind them.

This comes just after Activision have found themselves deeper in lawsuits, with NovaLogic claiming copyright infringement on one of their logo designs, and Activision paying out 42 million to former IW developers over unpaid royalties. This settlement removes EA from a possible trial where Activision would claim several hundred million dollars from them in damages.

It must be noted though that this is just one of the several lawsuits that Activision has on their hands. The most well-known and arguably most important one, West and Zampella vs. Activision, is still going ahead, and unfortunately it seems to be getting worse as time goes on.

Black Ops II will be Non-Linear and a Sandbox game

Departing from the notorious linear campaign style of past Call of Duty games, Treyarch have decided to take a non-linear and sandbox approach to Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and the old linear style has been dropped in favour of "a more open ended campaign that relies heavily on player choice."

There will be significant points within the single-player campaign where the player is essentially given control over the course the game will take. It won't be a simple "A, B or C" choice either, it will be more expansive than that, for example, not protecting a certain character won't lead to a mission failure, instead it will change the course the game will take.

To help with the departure from a linear campaign are a set of special missions dubbed Strike Force. These missions are sandbox, and play similarly to a Real Time Strategy game. The player can assume the role of a commander, command ground forces, and on top of this, there will be the ability to go back to the traditional first-person and take part in the action yourself.

Black Ops 2 website launched

The website for Black Ops 2 has been released, and was accessible here - http://callofduty.com/blackops2/ (http://callofduty.com/uk/en/blackops2/ for UK residents), until being taken down shortly afterwards.

Currently, it has a page for the reveal with a video player, however the video player is not working yet, and the URL of the YouTube video it is supposed to play (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upCWKsa9Skw) is currently private. It seems that that URL will eventually display the reveal later tonight.

There is also a listing for an "interactive trailer", as well as a page for images, though no images currently are available.

Note - the site doesn't seem to be working for some people, try the UK site if the standard one will tell you that your IP is blocked.

Note 2 - the site is currently inaccessible, it will probably be accessible after the reveal.

A fifth piece of intel for Black Ops 2 has been revealed on callofduty.com. It appears to show part of the Quadrotor, with another drone or plane in the background.

There is a weapon file for the .50cal Humvee turret

SingleplayerEdit

The M1911 used to kill Al-Asad, and the M1911 Griggs uses while shooting at Zakhaev in game over, have individual weapon files separate from the normal M1911
There is a weapon file called cod3mg42_turret that uses a variety of MG42 and M249 SAW variables
There are 4 individual weapon files for 4 different RPGs
There are 3 individual weapon files for 3 different Stingers

TexturesEdit

There is a file called compass_flag_german.iwi which when viewed is a German WW2 flag
- There is also several MP icons with the German insignia on them.
There are two victory screens, one for SAS and for USMC:

There are menu items for every gun attachment variation in the game, though some are unfinished, and some represent weapons not possible in-game (such as an M1014 with grip and RDS). They also appear to be more detailed than the final versions of the menu icons:

The multiplayer menu screen background from CoD1 still exists in the files, as does the CoD2 logo
Thermite and Sticky Bomb exist in the files as inventory icons
There are HUD texture files denoting full-auto and semi-auto firing modes
- Several unused campaign minimaps have the string "M4 Carbine Full Auto" on them.

Achievements and next Spec Ops missions revealed via PC patch

After the most recent Modern Warfare 3 patch for PC, the achievements for the next two Spec Ops DLC missions have been revealed, along with the names of the two missions and details about them.

"Iron Clad" appears to be a mission involving the player controlling a tank.

Rather busy (and sad) week for Call of Duty:

Apparently new playlists were released for Modern Warfare 3.
Promising details about a Black Ops 2 leak (along with supposed leaked info) was released.
Rather suddenly, and very sadly, Robert Bowling resigned from his position at Infinity Ward
- In response to this, Bovell wrote an open letter to Mr Bowling on behalf of the wiki

Luckily, there is only one forum open in the War Room, but it's quite important, make sure to have your say!
Fortunately, Robert Bowling himself read Bovell's letter, and left a tweet about it!
Over a couple of weeks ago, we planned a clan match against Charlie Intel, but unfortunatly it was canceled at last minute
Over the past few weeks, a survey for chat has been running, and the results for it will be posted in due course

Robert Bowling resigns as Infinity Wards Creative Strategist

Today, Infinity Ward’s “Creative Strategist” Stealth Clown/Fourzerotwo has just resigned from both Infinity Ward and Activision. Making the announcement over Twitter, Bowling was one of the last remaining well known devs to stay at Infinity Ward after the firing of lead developers Jason West and Vince Zampella.

Robert Bowling hangs out on Google+, reveals DLC info

Robert Bowling has recently taken part in a Google+ chat. During the conversation, he revealed that:

One of the DLC maps coming next month is a “large sniper friendly map”
Hosting/lag issues are still being addressed
"Very intense" small maps will be dropping soon
Gun DLC is not a priority

Activision has won a dismissal of one of the fraud claims raised against them
A trailer was released for Modern Warfare 3's Collection 1 DLC
Call of Duty was beaten down by Battlefield at the BAFTAs, better luck next time, bros
LMGs in Modern Warfare 3 have received a buff

Modern Warfare 3 LMG buff

According to this twitter post from Robert Bowling, LMGs have had their minimum damage value boosted in a hot fix issued about a day ago.

Activision wins dismissal of one of two former executives’ fraud claims

State Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle of Los Angeles has agreed with Activision that one of Vince Zampella and Jason West's fraud claims against Activision should not be allowed to go forward. One of them still stands, however.

West and Zampella said that they were considering leaving Activision when their contracts expired in October 2008. They alleged that Activision made false promises to string them along and create “Modern Warfare 2,” which became the bestselling game of 2010, before firing them.

The two men accuse Activision of firing them in order to avoid paying them millions in royalties for the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, however the publishing giant maintains that they were fired due to the two holding secret talks with Electronic Arts, which was in breach of their contracts. As such, in December 2010, Activision filed a $400 million lawsuit against EA.

A trial for any remaining claims is scheduled for May 7th 2012. The case is known as West v. Activision, SC107041, California Superior Court (Los Angeles County).

Robert Bowling wants free classic maps for MW3

According to this Gamesta article, Robert Bowling has said that "he would like to see some classic Call of Duty maps released for MW3 for free."

And in this case, it's free. Not just for ELITE subscribers, free for all and at the same time.

If you’re going to do throwback maps – if you’re going to do classic maps, keep it outside the DLC model. For DLC, if you’re paying for stuff – if it’s included in your subscription, it should all be new content. If we’re going to do a throwback map, let that be outside the DLC model, let it be free, let it for everyone. Don’t let it be restricted by contracts, partnerships, and all that money stuff. Let it just be there.

Of course, this doesn't mean for sure that we'll be getting free classic maps. But at least there's a glimmer of hope when someone of Robert Bowling's position expresses his want for free classic maps.

Activision shuns blog for reporting Black Ops 2 leak

News has emerged that Activision have shunned a blog for reporting the Amazon listing of Black Ops 2.

They have apparently cancelled their upcoming invite to a Transformers: Fall of Cybertron preview event, as well as withdrawn any advertising interests for the blog.

Overall, this is starting to seem like a secret that Activision really didn't want uncovered, but of course, nothing is finalised yet.

"Nerve Software" artist Hugo Beyer has recently listed work on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on his LinkedIn profile. His public profile has since been removed or at least hidden.

Nerve Software has contracted artists for Activision before, and Treyarch are known to use Nerve Software artists in the development of their games. More profoundly, however, is that Nerve Software was indeed involved in the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops.
