Designer Eddie Del Rio has released concept art of the cancelled Call of Duty: Vietnam that he helped create for Sledgehammer Games. The pieces show a darker and more twisted tone in what was to be a third person shooter set during the Vietnam War.

The art shows soldiers narrowly dodging a crashing cargo plane, Vietcong preparing to decapitate a detained American soldier, and a Cambodian village.

The project was cancelled in 2011 so that the studio could help in development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 following Infinity Ward's lawsuits. Instead of continuing work on the project, Sledgehammer went on to develop the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
