The latest rumours suggest that Call Of Duty game Modern Warfare 3 may not be a direct continuation of the last title but a prequel taking place before it.
The only source for this rumour is an 'unnamed source', in this case one speaking to website thisisxbox. The same source was apparently responsible for revealing the first details of Black Ops last year though, as well as the final name of Kinect, so it seems more believable than most.
The story is that Modern Warfare 3 will be a prequel to Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and focus on popular character Ghost. Fans will know there's a fairly compelling reason why Ghost can't be in a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 2, so instead the next game will feature a story based on the comic book tie-in released last year.
The source also suggests that the new game will have you revisiting familiar locations from both the Modern Warfare games, but from different perspectives. Apparently it will still use the same game engine from Modern Warfare 2
and Black Ops. (Note: Black Ops uses an updated World at War engine. Source is wrong on this point)
There will definitely be a new Call Of Duty this year Activision has revealed nothing about it so far. The most likely possibilities are that it will be either Modern Warfare 3 from Infinity Ward or the first game from new studio Sledgehammer Games - possibly one with a sci-fi setting.
