Activision’s Eric Hirshberg has revealed that the publisher was “not ready to reveal the entire feature set of the service because a lot of it is embedded into Modern Warfare 3.”. The premium service will offer comprehensive stat tracking across Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops, as well as social networking features.
Many people felt that the service wasn't worth paying for and they weren’t alone. Hirshberg said “What we revealed was incomplete and we did create some confusion.” However, over 2 million players have signed up for the Call of Duty ELITE Beta in less than 3 weeks.
But how exactly can Activision create a new experience? When the company outed the Elite service, they said it was founded on three principles: connecting, competing, and improving. The ability to connect is present in the social networking features. The ability to compete can be found in the Program Guide, but what about improving your game? We can only wait for the beta in the summer.
