The Waco CG-4A Haig Glider was the main combat glider employed by the United States Army Air Force and by the Royal British and Canadian Air Forces in smaller numbers.
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
The Waco CG-4A made its first appearance in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One during Operation Husky. While the 1st Infantry Division was landing, gliders carrying members of the 82nd Airborne Division were storming into Sicily. The player's group is sent to save the surviving airborne troopers that were in a glider shot down presumably by enemy fire or U.S. Navy friendly fire.
The Waco was slightly smaller than the Horsa Glider, being able to carry 13 troops versus the Horsa's 28 troops. This small size gave it a benefit. It could land in smaller areas such as treed or village areas. It also had a net system that would allow a modified C-47 to pick it up when it was parked on the ground. It took part in Operation Husky, Operation Overlord, Operation Market Garden and Operation Varsity.
