Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

Weapon Level is a feature introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Each weapon has its own individual rank and in order to unlock available Camouflages, Attachments, Proficiencies and Challenges, the player must rank up the weapon by using it in combat. When the weapon is leveled up, additional customization options are unlocked, such as the reticle of the attachable sights, excluding the Hybrid Sight, HAMR Scope, and Thermal Scope. Max leveling a primary weapon will unlock Gold Camouflage for the said weapon, although the final level requires substantially more experience than prior levels. The final level is 31 for primary weapons, while for the secondary weapons it's 10. Not all weapons require the same amount of levels to obtain camouflages, attachments and the like. Launcher levels are implemented to add longevity to the weapons, as there are no attachments or camouflages for them. To gain the weapon title for primary weapons, the player must unlock the last attachment, even if it isn't level 31.

The order and level with which items are unlocked for primary weapons remains similar across all types of weapon:

Required XP[]

Every primary weapon requires a set amount of XP to attain level 31.

Each secondary has a set amount of Weapon XP needed to attain level 10.

Reaching the final level for a weapon (31 for primary, 10 for secondary) requires much more XP than the previous levels.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

Weapon level returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Leveling up the player's weapon allows them to unlock attachments for the weapon, the order varying between any two weapons, even within the same category. Camouflages are now unlocked via challenges, such as getting a specific amount of headshots. The order and amount of attachments that can be unlocked varies between weapons. If one manages to level up the weapon enough to unlock all attachments, the player may prestige the gun and unlock new features for it, such as putting the player's clan tag on the weapon. Prestiging the weapon twice and then going on to level up the weapon fully a third time will reward the player a Calling Card exclusive to that weapon.

Call of Duty Online[]

Weapon level appears in Call of Duty Online as well. Leveling up the weapon allows attachments to be purchasable by Game Points for players. Attachment can be purchased by CoD Points at any time without limited by weapon level. The final level is 31 for primary weapons, while it's 20 for the secondary weapons. If a primary weapon reach level 31, a Hex Camouflage will unlock for this weapon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III[]

Weapon levels function similarly to before, unlocking new attachments with each weapon level. Weapons are leveled up through usage, such as getting kills or assists. Each weapon has its own progression bar that is viewable in Create-A-Class.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare[]

Weapon level returns in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. As with previous games, leveling up the player's weapon allows them to unlock attachments for the weapon, the order varying between any two weapons, even within the same category. Camouflages are again unlocked via challenges, such as getting a specific amount of headshots. The order and amount of attachments that can be unlocked varies between weapons. If one manages to level up the weapon enough to unlock all attachments, the player may prestige the gun and unlock three exclusive accessories for it.

From January 27th, 2017 to February 3rd, 2017, Double Weapon XP was granted[1].
