The Xbox 360 (commonly abbreviated to 360) is the second video game console produced by Microsoft, and developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, and SiS. The Xbox 360 is mainly based around the online multiplayer gaming and multimedia service Xbox Live. Xbox Live allows players to compete online against other players and download content such as arcade games, game demos, trailers, TV shows, and movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox, and competes with the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information released later that month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The console sold out completely during the global release (with the exception of Japan) and, as of February 22, 2008, have been sold 18 million units worldwide.[1] The Xbox 360 comes in three different versions, the "Arcade" console, the "Pro" console, and the "Elite" console, each having its own selection of included and available accessories. The "Core" version of the Xbox 360 which was originally available from launch but has since been discontinued for retail and replaced with the "Arcade" version.

On September 15, 2009 Microsoft announced a special 250GB hard disk limited edition version of the Xbox 360 for Modern Warfare 2. The unit is highlighted by special game product branding and includes two wireless controllers, a headset, and a copy of Modern Warfare 2 Standard Edition. This was the first Xbox 360 announced to come with a 250GB hard drive. It will be released on November 10, 2009 along with Modern Warfare 2. It will sell for $399.99.

[edit] Trivia

  • There aren't many notable differences between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War.
  • It may be noteworthy that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 each have unique differing styles of gameplay due to the different button mapping; notably the placement of the analogue sticks. The field of view on the PlayStation 3 version is slightly larger if the player is playing through the HDMI on a High Definition TV.
