The Yak-9 was the main Soviet fighter aircraft used in World War II by the Soviet Air Force. It was the first Soviet fighter plane capable of going toe-to-toe with the German Luftwaffe's BF109. The Yak-9 can be seen in Call of Duty: World at War.

Call of Duty: World at WarEdit

The Yak-9 appears frequently overhead in the Red Army missions providing ground support for the player. The Yak-9 is first seen in the mission "Their Land, Their Blood" when several Yaks fly in low over the player while on the back of a T-34. Later in the level several Yak-9's strafe a fleeing German column, destroying multiple tanks and killing dozens of German soldiers. Following "Their Land, Their Blood" in the level "Blood and Iron" Yak-9s are constantly flying above the player's T-34 and provide ground support for the player just before the player reaches the train station.
